Woodcock that is. I was collecting stones for my next home improvement product when mama woodcock flew the nest. I went back to the house got the kids and the camera and after a good search we found where they moved to.

Man, bird feet are one of the best visual examples of evolution. I mean, an intelligent designer making something as cute and fuzzy and adorable as a baby bird wouldn't give them those nightmarish talons jutting out of the fuzz.

Mama was only a few feet away, but I didn't want to disturb her further. The guy on his back must've been rolled when mom flew. They are totally reliant on stealth so mom created the diversion flying slowly away maybe three feet off the ground. The babies were absolutely still and silent.

Thank the Gods there is still some nature available for mere mortals to see in the outdoors. Great pics, Griff. Thanks.
