Weird receipt
 

Hi folks.

I'm new on Cellar as well as in the USA. So I just don't know where I can ask such a question.

A couple of weeks ago I got a weird receipt from a small grocery store. It has a wrong date (09-23-2000 instead of 01-22-2006) and no store name or an address on it. At first I thought it was just a broken cash register, but today I was in that store again and they gave me a similar receipt, and I guess it's their normal practice.
I believe it's wrong, because I cannot return products to this store if I'm not satisfied with them.
So, my question is: is there anything that I could do with it? Where shall I call or report or whatever? Is this thing really wrong or I'm just a paranoiac? :neutral:

Sounds more like they have acquired a cash register scond-hand and haven't a clue how to change the date or insert their address (probably came without the original instructions). Worth bringing to their attention on that basis on a 'I don't know if you know, but your cash register is.... blah-blah-blah... and it may cause you problems if it isn't attended to' rather than approach it as being a case that they are deliberately trying to deceive.

I bet they have a VCR at home that keeps flashing "12:00...12:00...12:00...12:00...". :-)

I did some programming of grocery store cash registers, and some of those systems are very complicated.

How often do you need to return items to a small grocery store? If it's that small, they may not have an "official" return policy anyway--it's pretty much just whether the person behind the counter feels like giving you your money back.

Don't trade there.

"yeah, hey I bought this sandwich here and it tastes funny. I'd like my money back."

"do you have a receipt?"

"yes, here it is"

My older son has something like that - it's called Tibo or something like that -equivalent of video on demand. I've just got caught in a generation time warp (also the VCR we have is built into the portable TV we still use in the kitchen area - I need it to break down before I can replace it - another time-warp thing...)

"TiVo"...which records programs on an internal hard drive. The nice thing about the Neuros gadget is that it records to Memory Sticks (which are directly viewable on PlayStation Portables or Sony Clie PalmPilots, or onto Compact Flash Cards. Pop out the CF/MS out and take it with you.

The Neuros is *not* anywhere near as smart about schedules and channels, whereas the TiVo may pop up and say: "You seem to like this show so I recorded some other stuff like it for you.

On the downside, being constantly updated from The Mother Ship to get the broadcast schedules, it's also subject to mandatory software updates that you don't control. The TiVo people can change the behavior of the device you bought whenever they think it's a good idea....like if a broadcaster decides he doesn't want his show timeshifted to make sure all his commercials are viewed.

Another nice feature of the Neuros is that it's about the size and weight of a pack of Rothman's, so slips easily into a pocket, so you could record a movie and then take it to a friend's house and play it on their TV, whetrher they have a VCR or DVD player or not. It also will play MP3 music or display JPEG images...or both at once in a kind of musical slideshow
