This is what I call fitting into the surrounding elements . . .

While inside, one can also fit into the surrounding elements . . .

THE STORY

It all began with a film. Treehotel's founders were inspired by ”The Tree Lover” by Jonas Selberg Augustsen. The unyielding question formed was:

Why not create a hotel that gives people a chance to experience nature amongst the tree-tops, while also providing a uniquely designed housing experience?

That led to the creation of Treehotel, Harads. The Mirrorcube is the flagship creation of Treehotel.

A perfect match of design, sustainability, art and efficiency. Delivered by distinguished Scandinavian architects Bolle Tham & Martin Videgård.

Mirrorcube offers an extraordinary opportunity to experience nature on nature’s terms, without compromising on design or comfort.

I would want a whole load more window than that. Seems more like a prison inside.

I like it. Wonder how often birds slam into it though.

I wonder if the photographer is standing with their back to one of the huge mirror walls? There seems to be another light source at least.

ETA - there are four windows of similar size as far as I can see. It does look very light in other pictures.

Also the glass is treated with an infrared film, invisible to humans, but visible to birds.

There's an old Seinfeld routine about the birds getting into his house when he was a kid and they'd fly around the room until they smashed into this mirrored wall. "I can understand that a bird wouldn't get the concept of a mirror, but don't you think he'd at least try to avoid the bird that was coming right at him?"

See? That's what I'm talking about.

It's the fifth dimension... there now, that's easy to understand.

It's the 6th -> 11th that's tough.

There's a place like that near us, though not covered in mirrors. A treehouse hotel room you can rent for the night. It's not even that expensive, but the reservations are usually booked a year in advance.

Ummmm, me
I tried to sidestep myself in a shop mirror one. But the girl wearing the same coat as me kept stepping the same way. I was 17 and too embarrassed to look her in the eye. It felt like I was there for about 10 minutes but of course it was only seconds. Far too long for anyone with common sense though.

How about last week? I was at a Chinese buffet with my mom and my 9 year old niece. I glanced over and thought there were 4 MORE really long buffet tables full of food, until I realized that there were people over there who looked exactly like us! :)

Bad idea, mirrors in an all you can eat buffet. When I catch sight of myself, I swear I'll never eat again. But it never works. :(

Or a really good idea?

infinite monkey 12-14-2011 02:21 PM

Oh. Yeah, I guess you're right. From their perspective it is a good idea.

Then they won't have to say (as much) YOU BEEN HERE 4 HOUR YOU GO NOW.

Friend of mine has a twin, and he says that on more than one occasion he has wandered near a mirror while shopping with his family in a department store, and made several comments at it before realizing it was not his brother.

Because the bird coming right at him is doing the same thing and keeps changing direction the same way at the same time:D
