Sleeping - How much is enough

I cannot sleep more than six hours a night. I sleep like a baby but if I slept now, and I want to, I would wake early in the morning, then I am dragging my buns by early evening.

So I am here writing, hoping to keep awake. I could put toothpicks in my eyelids.

I am rambling. I am more uninhibited when I am sleepy, sometimes.

How many hours a night do you all sleep?

classicman 09-02-2010 08:03 AM

5 maybe 6 hours if I'm lucky

skysidhe 09-02-2010 08:32 AM

Oh well, Who needs to sleep anyway, especially after reaching the halfway mark in age, the final sleep draweth nearer.

I usually sleep for around 8 hours, but I can sleep as many as 10 and can get away with as few as 6.

I didn't sleep much last night either (maybe 4 hrs?) and I am fighting the idea of a nap, so that I can sleep tonight.

I need 7 1/2 to 8 1/2 hours, or I get very moody and headachy.

monster 09-03-2010 07:05 PM

about 6

sweetwater 09-04-2010 07:05 AM

skysidhe, you may not be truly sleeping for 6 hours. Have you ever had a sleep study? That mid-afternoon sleepiness is a symptom of sleep deprivation. (I'm not a doctor, I just play one on the 'net, but I am much better in the afternoons than I once was due to better sleep now.) I still haven't figured out how much sleep I need at night, but I know that afternoon naps are more a (delightful) choice than a (desperate) requirement, post CPAP.

Sleep studies are very popular here at the cellar. All the cool dwellars have done them...

skysidhe 09-04-2010 09:37 AM

Thanks sweetwater but I don't need a sleep study.

I have massive amounts of stress and I don't need an antidepressant either. :P

Nothing that can't be cured with a job and a nice place for my mom. The last one fell through due to pending replacement hip surgery after the pin in her leg failed.

I have been forcing myself to sleep 7 hours. Sometimes if I sleep too long I at headachy and grumpy.

Lamplighter 09-12-2010 01:07 AM

4 to 5 on a good night. ...can also give you a headache and make you grumpy ;)

sweetwater 09-12-2010 07:15 AM

...and when I tried to force myself to sleep longer, I also woke up headachy and grumpy - the medical folk said it was due to poor quality sleep, leading to low levels of oxygen, (proven by the oxygen sensor I wore during the sleep study). I'm not trying to sell CPAPs or medical services, it's just the enthusiasm of the newly-converted. :cheerldr: I resisted for years, thinking poor quality and limited sleep was just my 'normal'.

6 usually. I don't use an alarm clock, generally go to bed around 4am.

Don't try this at home. I am a professional.

Sperlock 09-12-2010 11:31 AM

7 to 8 hours for me, though for last night, it turned out to be about 9 hours. The amount of light coming into my room can affect my sleep patterns as well as having little covering over my body (this one affects me more than the light - with more covering I sleep better). And there are times where my mind wants to stay in bed, but my body has had enough - that's what happened this morning. If I go to bed late (11 p.m. or later), I generally don't get as much sleep no matter what I try to do.
