April 22, 2008: Ice wave
Beltnah sends you another one.
You may have seen this, it's been floating (no pun) around the net this winter. http://cellar.org/2008/icewave1.jpg One of the sites it's on says; Quote:
I say, sell it to the Arabs. :yelgreedy |
Wait, didn't we have this in the cellar already? It is caused by the ice being pushed up rather than water freezing on the way down. I'm certain I saw it here. This is the only place I see cool things.
|
I don't think it was IOtD. It may have been in one of the picture threads, or you may have seen it on one of the 70 odd sites it's been posted on.
|
So much for 'global' warming, eh?
|
Would make a great pic if someone posed on top on a surfboard.
|
It looks like a blue salmon fillet
|
COOL
|
I got this a month ago from a buddy in Michigan. He finally got tired of waiting for spring, and headed south again.
Ditto, Newtimer. |

Snopes has a different (and accurate) explanation.

I love it. There's a little bit of ice somewhere and everyone points and screams "SEE? SEE? How freaking warm is THAT? I laugh in the face of your global warming."
Really cool pic! No matter where the darn ice was. Thanks, cooties, for saving me a drive to Michigan! |
Yes, thanks cooties! We're always looking for better information on the IOtD pictures.
I was wondering, if it was Lake Huron, why wasn't it brown ice? |

Apparently, according to Snopes, "These particular photographs were taken at the Antarctic base of Dumont D'Urville by Tony Travouillon in 2002.
In March 2008, the text accompanying these pictures was altered to place the ice formations in Michigan (due to the recent cold snap there). :) |
Welcome to the Cellar, JennTheMermaid. :D
Your right about Snopes, cooties linked to that in post 10. |
