So how the hell are ya?

Missed you bitches.

Catch me up and tell me what you've been doing.

Urbane Guerrilla 12-16-2010 03:54 AM

Oh, I continue grinding. You hit any events, tourneys, Pennsic, whatever?

DanaC 12-16-2010 04:32 AM

Bloody Nora! It's Onyx!

How's life? What you been up to?

XAgent 12-20-2010 09:50 AM

How are the kids? Still living life in the evil corporate cable empire customer service division?

OnyxCougar 12-21-2010 12:07 PM

Hi everyone. Sorry it took so long to reply, I had forgotten to verify my new email address and wasn't allow to post a reply. My apologies to UT for assuming I was being modded. I didn't see the email at the gmail address, but it came right to the new one. Doh!

Anyways, I'm still at the evil cable company Wolf, just in the IT department now instead of customer service.

My oldest son disowned me in September. My life has been much less dramatic since then, so overall it was probably a good thing. My middle son (the Aspie) is 17 and a junior in high school, making all A's and B's. He's 6'5" and runs about 230. My daughter is 13 now and has decided to remain with her hyper-religious father for the time being.

Me and Moose are still together after 7 years. We have ups and downs just like everybody else, but we're starting to settle in for the long haul, I think.

I'm still fat, something I'm trying to get the will to change, but finding very difficult to get off my ass and do something about. I went for a sleep study last year and I've got moderate sleep apnea and was prescribed a APAP. Haven't used it since June-ish. Something else I'll get around to doing. However, I'm no longer considered diabetic, I've got my A1C down to 5.1 just through diet alone. Mostly low-carb.

I'm the webmaster for the local group here, UG, but it's a very small group and I'm not down for all the drama (and they are an hour away) so I don't get down there much. My name and device were officially approved though. Huzzah!! My SCA blog is here. It has pics of things I've crafted and any projects I'm working on.

I'm back in school, only 3 semesters left to get my AA degree (working full time so taking night classes) in University Transfer. The Plan™ is to graduate with my AA at the same time my son graduates high school, then move to Texas, get situated and work for a year to get Texas residency, then Start School in Earnest at UT-Austin in the Slavic Studies program, majoring in Czech Studies with a double minor of Linguistics and Language Education. The Goal™ is to move to the Czech Republic (preferably the Eastern region - Frędek-Mistek) and Teach English as a Foreign Language (or Second Language).

I'd also like to cross train in Polish since they are very similar languages (many words are the same, just spelled differently). But we'll see.

I'd also like to learn German, since that is a secondary language in the CR. But we'll see. As I found out last semester, taking two language classes at the same time is very difficult. (Still managed a Trifeca though - took three classes and got 3 As!).

Other than that, not much happening here. As always, lots of great plans. Just working on the follow-through.

Hey Onyx. Good to see you back. I use to be case on here.

Do you know how to speak Czech, yet? They have a program at the University in Prague where you can learn in this intensive immersion type class. I don't know what it costs, but I hear it only takes a few weeks to get to where you are having conversations. I only spent 2 weeks in Czech, so the language was pretty tough for me.

I can speak a little, but I discovered that learning multiple anguages at once was alot harder than learning one at a time, so since my CC doesn't offer Czech (or German or Latin or Russian) I'm taking Spanish to get my AA then transferring to the Czech program.

I have been on livemocha.com (recommended!!). Rosetta Stone doesn't make a Czech version.

And nice ta see yagain! :)

I had the hardest time learning Czech, I just gave up. My brother can speak it fluently, but he was married to a Czech girl.

Dobrei den
