May 27th, 2019: Memorial Day

Memorial Day, the day we honor all the dead from all the wars.

Here ya go, 58,307 Dog Tags, representing the men(boys) and women(girls) whose lives were squandered in Vietnam for a political pissing match.
What day do we honor the 304,000 wounded, 75,000 severely disabled, and countless vets with invisible wounds to their mind? :eyebrow:

I won't even bother with everything that's gone down since then.

Amen.

Amen

Veterans Day, November 11.

March 29 was Vietnam Veterans Day.

June 27 is PTSD Awareness Day.

August 7 is Purple Heart Day.

But, you know, keep being snarky.

If that's aimed at Bruce you're barking up the wrong tree.
There may be a PTSD day but I doubt it hits the front page of any news organizations like Memorial and Veteran's and I think that's Bruce's point.

P.S. Amen

And just which one of those days did a bit of fucking good?
Which one stopped vets from killing themselves?
Which one helped the vets with night terrors for the next 40 years, if they live that long?
Which one will help the vets with PTSD who can't interact with the family who loves them?
Which one will stop the Agent Orange from eating their body?

Snarky, no disgusted. The military is supposed to defend the USA when attacked by a foreign power. The last time that happened was 1942.
Military service fucks people up and shouldn't be used unnecessarily.

Here ya go, see what happens?

You're right. Dogtags from a ceiling are the way to go.

Dogtags from the ceiling is just a visual aid to make the millions of Americans who know jack shit about the war in Vietnam, grasp the size of the tragedy. They're not going to help the vets already screwed up, but could help prevent adding to their ranks.

It's been almost 50 years and it could easily happen again. There's a couple of generations who don't know the cost of these follies. Since the draft ended wars are on the evening news like it's a sporting event someone else is playing. People are disconnected from what is going on in their name.
