Kakapo? Don't use such fowl language!

This is one of the rarest species of parrot, only found in New Zealand, and it sure looks like this may be a case where the babies (as pictured above) are uglier than the adults (as pictured below):

They are in the news because New Zealand is giving turkey vaccines to these birds, because they seem to be having trouble with a disease after having been moved by humans to a new island home. There are so few of them that the sudden deaths of three of them have officials panicky. full story

Kakapo (strigops habroptilus) is a nocturnal flightless bird that climbs trees. Adult males weigh up to 2.5 kilograms (5.5 pounds) making them the world's biggest parrots -- and with some living for around 100 years, they are among the longest-lived.

The picture on the top is of the baby? That baby bird is the size of a human head! :eek: Nice plumage by the way! Green is nice on a bird.
