In keeping with my current obession interest, this is now on my "To Do" list.

Can I come?

squirell nutkin 09-04-2010 11:04 AM

Absolutely. If we meet any bears I'll only have to paddle faster than you. ;)

Seriously, though it would be an awesome homeschooling/family adventure.

Lamplighter 09-04-2010 11:15 AM

Be sure to travel down-stream.

Up-stream is a bear.;)

jinx 09-04-2010 11:15 AM

I paddle pretty fast. The kids though... I would have to arm them (nothing lethal, just enough firepower to slow you down).

Actually, I'd be more worried about Champ than any bears myself.

Any of those maps ( state ) trips would be so beautiful.

lumberjim 09-04-2010 11:39 AM

look at that, it ends at Old Forge. I wonder how long that would take to paddle.

trip planner thingy.. very cool

They said about 40-50 days if travelling as a group, 60 if solo. They don't say how to factor in the frequency and severity and location of bear attacks though. So, the point at which a group trip becomes a solo trip may impact one's over-all trip time.

Jim, will they give you 50 days off work, or are you ready to trade stress for inner peace?

Early retirement, I need it.

you have no idea how appealing that sounds. I have 3 good reasons to keep my nose to the grindstone, however, so I don't see any vacations in my near future.... Once I've got this maelstrom under control, though... I would seriously love to come paddling with you. I'll handle the bears.

even if they know karate!

My shoulders (and back) hurt just looking at the map.

Awesome. It'll be a year or so before G-max (the mm) is ready to rock. She's only 3.

I love that commercial "OH LOOK! An Eagle!"
