5/27/2004: "Everything" glasses

http://cellar.org/2004/everythingglasses.jpg

These glasses were developed by British and German scientists to make everyone who wears them look like a total dork.

No, actually they record everything that the user looks at. From the full story it sounds like the glasses track your eyes, so it's more than just a digital camera mounted on a hard hat.

Developers said "A car mechanic for instance could find at a glance where a part on a certain car model is so that it can be identified and repaired.

"For the motorist the system could highlight accident black spots or dangers on the road."

Dangers on the road such as dorks wearing big monstrosities in front of their face while driving?

Still, I will be opening a franchise rental service for these at beach resorts. You get complete UV protection, for both your eyes and your entire head, and at the end of the day you get an 8x10 print of every hottie you glanced at. I will combine this with the

beverage hat so the camera is on top with beverages on the side. I'll make a fortune!

Two crappy webcams glued to an ugly helmet? I think they could have done better than that. It might be cool though if you could zoom and enhance images that you are looking at. I'll stick to the beer dispensing helmet.

Beer dispensing helmet + video helmet = Beer Goggles?

I'm in love with those tiny displays that project an image onto glasses from a cigarette sized tube attached to one of the arms, very farking cool.

Why? This is about as useful as the internet weather toaster!

Didn't you see the last paragraph in Undertoad's post?

glatt 05-27-2004 02:52 PM

The article says:
Quote:

The wearer could walk around an office or factory identifying certain items by pointing at them. Objects indicated are then given a blank label on a screen inside the glasses that the user then fills in.
How are you supposed to fill in the label? Later, when reviewing the video? I don't see any cords going down to the waist of the person where a portable keyboard could be stashed in a fanny pack. (Oh, the image of coolness.) I see no microphones for voice stamping the entries.

The full text doesn't seem to say they follow eye movement, but maybe my reading comprehension isn't what it should be.

I think this is just a couple of webcams mounted to a helmet with a view screen in front of the eyes. I think the only real benefits here are the dual cameras can make a 3D image, and the camera is wearable. The article really pushes the ability to label images, so maybe there is some sort of software that makes the images easy to label and find later.

Could be bluetooth.

Yes, Happy Monkey, I read the last paragraph. I still don't get the point of this invention - but it does make me laugh.

Coming to a Sharper Image near you.

Roller coaster?

I wish I could have watched the roller coaster with these.

Which is all you will get because said hotties will be distancing themselves from your total geekiness.

This really is pretty cool. Like a baby step towards the actual technology from the movie Brainstorm, where they invented a machine that could record your actual thoughts for playback by anyone.

I remember an erotic scene from that movie, where one guy was caught playing an endless loop of some co-worker mad-fucking a hot woman.

Come to think of it UT, I'll take two. Why can't the girls have some fun also?

bjlhct 05-27-2004 10:36 PM

Thought reading?

Well, when you "think" words, a lot of the time you are transmitting the appropriate electricity to your vocal cords from nerves...too little to actually make them move, but enough to pick up the field with a collar-like gadget some guys came up.
