Don't use LOL
It's over. LOL is now officially overused and we are cautioning everyone to avoid it from here on out. Actually it was overused in 2003 and we are just letting you know. No more LOLs. Just don't use it. Don't put those letters together. Avoid.

Can I still LMAO?
|
That should be okay... for the next 18 months...

I think it's as valid as using "&" to mean "and" or "w/" to mean "with" ... but that's not exactly the same thing, though... If we didn't type "lol" we'd have to type "ha ha ha" ... or are we expected to write a 10-page essay on exactly what we thought was funny, and to what degree? In real life, we can just chuckle, or smirk. That's why SteveBsjb invented CBOL (chuckled briefly out loud) ... to be more accurate. But not everybody knows what CBOL means, thus lol carries out a function of communicating a certain thing, in a shorthand that many people are familiar with. Tell me again what is wrong with that?
When you say it is overused, do you eman to say it is misused? |
How about if we disguise it - '1o1' or 'LQL'?
I don't care so much for LOL, but you will have to pry ROTFL from my cold dead hands. |
I like lol
In fact. Standing in the queue at my local shop, something funny happened involving a small child and the pic-n-mix stand and I thought "lol!". |

use alol to clarify when you Actually Laugh out Loud
|
So lol gives us an avenue to express our inner laugh. Technology is GRAND!
We should all have a replacement word: when you would otherwise use lol you would use your own personal replacement word. Mine shall be...hmmmm...haggis. From now on, whenever I would type lol I will type haggis. What will yours be? |
