2/4/2004: Record-setting pasta

http://cellar.org/2004/pastarecord.jpg

No I did NOT plan a day two of record-setting food, but when I saw this one I figured it had to be IotD today, to keep the string going, so to speak.

These folks are in Germany, participating in "Falkensee Pasta Week" and they have created the longest noodle ever.

(snicker)

They actually have a whole strand of noodles, and it's 50 meters long. This required a mere 250 eggs, 110 lbs (50 kg) of flour and a bit of water.

Apparently the guy on the end didn't get the memo about wearing gloves when you pick up your area of pasta for the picture. What a faux pas.

wolf 02-04-2004 11:59 AM

He probably didn't wear gloves to make it, either.

FileNotFound 02-04-2004 11:59 AM

Gloves, no gloves..who cares?

You'd boil it before eating anyway...

Pi 02-04-2004 12:09 PM

Oh please stop it. It 7pm over here
I came back from some 10km cross-country and I have to wait 1 more hour until I can go an catch something to eat!

glatt 02-04-2004 12:10 PM

How do you eat it? Put one end in your mouth and suck like crazy.

Pi 02-04-2004 12:13 PM

with some bolognese on it. should be messy to clean everything up...

wolf 02-04-2004 12:37 PM

Has no one keyed onto the absurdity of the Germans making the world-record pasta? Spaetze, yah. Kartoffelsalat, yah. a giant sauerbraten or rolladen, coolness.

Or did they just want to flip the bird at the Italians again for not holding the Southern Borders?

FileNotFound 02-04-2004 12:47 PM

Germans make the best soups...I miss those soups...and the wine.

Next up: World's record bucket-o-beer. Made in Venice.

Nothing But Net 02-04-2004 02:43 PM

50 METERS?

That can't be right. More like 500 meters at least, if all the pasta you see on the table belongs to one long strand.

glatt 02-04-2004 04:17 PM

Good catch, Net.
It's at least 500 meters. There are 7 rows of pasta. The table looks to be about 5 meters long at least. Maybe even as much as ten. Hard to tell with the forshortening. And I can count at least a dozen strands of noodles in each row. I bet it's more like 20 per row.
7x5x12=420 meters (conservatively)
7x10x20=1400 meters (stretching it)

I bet it's about 700 meters.

Pi 02-04-2004 04:21 PM

Yeah right Lumberjim...
just some missunderstandings...
I'm not living in UK but in Brussels Belgium and no skiing (I'd love to but we have over 15 celcius over here) but real running through a big forest.
I ambushed a chinese take-away and got me some fried shrimps and some pork with rice... Yummmmi
Feel free to ask further details about my bowel movement (looked it up in my dictionnary, strange word, but I didn't want to use shit) and how I slept... ;)

The poor kid at the front of the photo, his gloves are way to big for him. You would think they could have organised a smaller pair of gloves for him to wear. It looks like he is concentrating so so hard not to drop his end of the pasta.:worried:

xoxoxoBruce 02-04-2004 06:07 PM

I believe it's called a noodle as it comes out of the machine. It's divided into a bunch of strands, but just one noodle. Don't argue with the pasta nazis.:p
By the kid's left hand is the end of one table and the beginning of the next.
