On Wee

My entire family is pissy. Everyone is in a bad, dumb mood. I say "hello" to them and they bite my head off. My son is dying of boredom (was invited to go swimming with friends but won't because, A) he feels he's 'too fat', and B) he has eczema on his belly.) So he's morose. It is so freaking hot outside that the grass is wholly ignitable and I don't know what to do with myself.

Anyone else having a weird time?

Shawnee123 06-22-2006 02:35 PM

It's storming like crazy here and I am hoping the electricity goes out; not like I'm working hard today anyway. Earlier it was 80 degrees with 80% humidity, they are having "chiller" problems.

If I hadn't found the cellar I may have died from boredom as well. As it is I'll just have to hope lightning comes through my computer.

Bonjer, mess ammies!

(Just realized you're supposed to go to the cellar during severe storms!)

Are you in Northern Ohio?

Shawnee123 06-22-2006 02:41 PM

West Central...

Is the thread title a reference to urine (as in "My whole family is pissy") or simply a punny spelling of

en·nui n.
Listlessness and dissatisfaction resulting from lack of interest; boredom:

"The servants relieved their ennui with gambling and gossip about their masters" John Barth.

[French, from Old French enui, from ennuyer, to annoy, bore; see annoy.]

a pun on ennui

Yesterday a tree in my backyard was struck by lightning and caught fire. I think it's going to be a weird, werid summer.

Make yourself a wand out of that lightning struck wood, girl.

That's a great idea! Thanks, wolf! :)

We lost a big tree limb, too, though I don't know if it blew off or was hit by lightning.

I think it's going to be a very strange summer in Ohio, Bri! Ahhh, Ohio weather!

But my tomatoes are doing super!

We had a fierce one blow through last night for about an hour and a half. Midnight to 1:30AM. Really screwed up my sleep. Scared the kids, lots of very loud booms, very heavy rain, overflowing gutters. After half an hour of that nonsense I turned on the TV to see what was going on and when it would end, but no local news was covering it. Turned on the PC to see an online radar map, and saw it was only half over. I'm amazed we didn't get any direct hits on our property. It was striking all over.

Talk About Weird Weather

A buddy of mine sent me the below. I'm a total weather geek, but I hadn't heard of the phenomena. Very strange indeed:

Heat Bursts Occur Across South-Central Nebraska Early Tuesday Morning, June 20th.

Heat bursts are caused by decaying thunderstorms and only develop in an extremely unique environment. The rare setup for a heat burst is dry air directly beneath a weakening elevated thunderstorm. When a thunderstorm is weakening air within the thunderstorm begins to sink. If this sinking air is very dry and high enough it will begin to accelerate toward the ground since it is more dense. Any remaining precipitation will fall through this dry air and quickly evaporate. As the air continues downward, it warms rapidly due to compression.

A heat burst is noted by a rapid increase in temperature, a drop in the dew point temperature and an increase in winds. Here are some readings that occurred this morning.

Lexington Airport

Time Temp Dew Pt. Wind
3:10 am 70 63 Southwest 8 mph
4:30 am 86 48 South 32 mph gusting to 42 mph
