Jan 29, 2009: Rolling Summer House

A Rolling Summer House? What the hell is a Rolling Summer House?
The Brits will have to explain that because I don't think this is a typical example.

Quote:

In 2007 Charlie Whinney created the Rolling Summer house, an extraordinary spherical structure large enough to relax inside, but light enough for an adult to roll around a garden. Children can use it as a climbing frame, and it can be safely anchored to the ground with three child-proof legs.

There are currently two designs, both elaborate, geometrical representations of microscopic natural phenomena:
a pollen grain (4 metres)
a planktoncell (3 metres)
well, that's as clear as mud, but it covers the ground...

A summer house is like a treehouse without a tree, and more permanent than a wendy house (whic is in effect a tent). It's effectively an adult-sanctioned den or fort.

Damned cool looking. But hugely expensive I would imagine. Then again, if you have money, might as well spend it on your kids.

It would never make it on this side of the pond. It has no remote control.

Wouldn't a tent be easier?

"...and it can be safely anchored to the ground with three child legs."

What happens with the 4th leg?

:D

Child PROOF legs?
WTF
Why?

WillieO 01-29-2009 08:46 AM

Looks to me like a sea urchin screwed a wicker basket. Those crazy Brits, always something weird! (my aplolgizies to sundae).

But not as cool. My parents house-sit for people with money falling out of their arseholes. Lovely hardworking people, but very moneyed. One has a bespoke treehouse for the kids. Professionally built and finished to match the decking and railing. It's fully decorated and heated, and has electricity for lighting and consoles etc. Mum says it probably cost as much as this house. Kids are kids and probably would have as much fun with two planks and a broken stick, but they can afford something that suits the ambience, so why not?

I think they mean that children will not be able to move it once it is anchored. Otherwise little Susie will figure out a way to roll little Johnny down into the carp pond for cutting the hair off her Millionaire Barbie.

I think you're right SG, child proof anchors to keep the blighters from rolling down the lane.
