Yep, if you're anywhere West of a fire, the sky really is the color that it looks like on that weather map.

We're on a road trip. We're visiting Fort Columbia. Here's the view from our porch. The Columbia River is about 300 yards in the distance. You barely discern where the water defines the horizon.

On the way down here we came through Aberdeen and this is a view of the giant bridge between Aberdeen and Astoria.

Plenty of clouds. And no rain.

Griff 09-12-2020 07:20 AM

Y'all are ruining the West. Our trip to Western Canada last year had these kinds of views, not great.

By "y'all" I assume you mean gender reveal partiers

There are no clouds (or rain) in these pictures I just posted, the sky is filled with smoke.

Gender reveal partiers are a subset of humanity so... (I may have just opted out of humanity.)

This thread title would make a kickass name for a book

I know its a play on the song title, but for a zompoc book its perfect

Gravdigr 09-12-2020 02:55 PM

I tripped over 'zompoc' for a second or two before I got to zombie 'pocalypse.

:)

I wonder if the clouds are so heavy with soot/carbon they don't want to go higher?

'Day of the Dead' Barbie: Mattel releases second edition

Attachment 71450

Mattel's latest Barbie Dia De Muertos, inspired by Mexico's Day of the Dead tradition, is back.

With a delicate lace gown and face painted in typical "calavera" (Spanish for "skull") style, this Barbie is the second installation in the company's La Catrina collection, which began in 2019.

Día de los Muertos, or "Day of the Dead," is a centuries-old Mexican folk tradition celebrated during the first two days of November.

Families visit graveyards to remember their departed loved ones and to remind themselves that death is nothing to fear.

People also build altars to welcome the spirit of the deceased back for one night, adorning them with photos, mementos and traditional elements like "pan de muerto" (bread of the dead), sugar skulls and marigolds. ...

The smoke from dozens of wildfires in the western United States is stretching clear across the country — and even pushing into Mexico, Canada and Europe. While the dangerous plumes are forcing people inside along the West Coast, residents thousands of miles away in the East are seeing unusually hazy skies and remarkable sunsets.

glatt 09-17-2020 11:07 AM

Yeah. Super red sun yesterday morning. No clouds in the sky. Just a high haze.

Overcast today, so I don't see any smoke.
