Kodak perfects aromatography

Technology just keeps getting more and more amazing...

Unfortunately, I can't link to the images, because they're created with this new technology (apparently Topeka hasn't yet caught up with Kodak). Click the link and check out this incredible breakthrough!

Announcing AROMATOGRAPHY - An unbelievable sensory experience.

Imagine seeing an image of a field of wildflowers and the experiencing all the delicate and complex aromas that accompany the visual experience.

It's no longer just a dream, thanks to recent breakthroughs in Neuro-Optic-Nasal-Sense Imaging.

A breakthrough in imaging technology discovered during our digital
watermarking research and now being developed into a functional suite of sensors, software and imaging technologies that will change the way we experience images. Currently, development is underway to display aromatized still images in traditional print media ranging from postage stamps to billboards, and in electronic displays including handheld devices and stadium scoreboards. Future development is planned for video devices, codenamed Smellevision.

Proprietary imaging algorithms create an array of pixels, undetected by the conscious mind, that trigger reactions in the synapses along optic neural processing pathways within the brain to create, the olfactory equivalent of a optical illusion. The nose does not actually detect anything, but the mind experiences the aromas as if they were real. Interestingly, our tests have found that humans have an innate need to 'sniff' when experiencing Aromatized images even when fully aware that nothing is actually there for their nose to detect.

Take a moment and consider how we experience the world around us. Our senses gather data and convey it to our brains where it is processed into cognitive experiences. Our bodies are constantly experiencing physical stimuli but the sensations only become 'real' to us when our brains process the stimulus delivered by our nervous system. We take advantage of this construct of perception everyday: animation, 3D movies, surround sound, artificial flavorings. These experiences are not 'real, but they seem so to us. Ultimately they only exist in our minds. Our senses and our brains are highly evolved but they are not infallible, they can be fooled.
WOW!
