Does anyone really care???

Is it just me or are there other people out there who really don't give a crap if Ben Affleck and J-Lo called off the wedding? What is the world coming to when on the anniversery of a terrorist attack all we hear about from the press is how 'devestated' everyone is because the wedding is off? How shallow can you get? Let's face it, they both have the morals of alley cats, which is probably an insult to alley cats everywhere. All I can say is thank the Goddess they didn't reproduce, or do the current 'in' thing and go out and adopt some poor kid who's gonna need a lot a therapy in years to come.

Maybe I'm just getting old.

The more I read about 'celebrites' the more I like my goats.

It is not just you. I find that learning the details of celebrities' lives is about as interesting as having someone describe "last night's strange dream" in exacting detail... yawn. Celebrities are just people, and they are no more awe-worthy than any other soul who is great at what they do.

Last year I sat in a lounge in the Bellagio in Las Vegas, having drinks with a friend. At the next table was Val Kilmer. Despite his attempts to keep a low profile, I watched a few people spot him, freak out, and come get autographs from him. I just sat there thinking about how that bit of ink scratched across the back of a receipt would probably become someone's most treasured posession. Sad, really.

I am so heartbroken! I thought for sure the third time would be a charm for J. Lo! Now we may never see any beautiful Bennifer babies!

*sob!*

Undertoad 09-15-2003 03:27 PM

It's all fake, it's all crap. Friend of mine noted, what is celebrity in a time when you can be a celebrity for staying on an island for a long time?

OnyxCougar 09-15-2003 03:49 PM

People are interested in everyone else's lives primarily because they are dissatisfied with their own.

Well, if Jennifer Lopez wants babies, I'd step u to bat :D

Celebrities are actually less interesting because they don't have lives.
And welcome to the Cellar Miss.:)

Bob 09-15-2003 05:19 PM

ignore them, eventually they go away

about 2 years ago I stopped watching crappy TV, turned the page in my newspaper if it featured an article about a celebrity, stopped buying glossy magazines, stopped being hoodwinked into going to see blockbuster movies and quit listening to music radio. today, I can scan the racks at my newsagent and have no idea as to the identity of the 'stars' on the covers of FHM, Maxim, TV Times, et al. it's a great feeling. it can be done, and you don't have to get any tattoos or grow dreadlocks in order to do it. furthermore, even though I know that 2 celebrities are getting married and have generated blanket media coverage of the event, it doesn't raise my ire. at least, certainly not enough to bother complaining about them. unlike you.

If they had strange dreams like some of mine, the celeb gossip would be less interested!!

I've always enjoyed movies & TV shows, but I've never had the slightest wish to get to know any specific celebrities better. Though I have somewhat more respect for the past work of Ben than that of J-Lo (whom I for the life of me can't see the appeal of), anying boinking or nuptials they might or might not indulge in doesn't affect me one bit.

Oh and unless it got scrapped, there is a Kevin Smith film starring those two that is due out... surely the assumption that this is all a stunt to drive up publicity for it is a silly conspiracy theory... These Hollywood folks couldn't be THAT shallow, right? :3eye:

Does anyone really care**

Re the cult of celebrity.Would the media cease to print the deluge of crap day in day out without it being devoured by the masses.Even the main network news reports always end with some celeb nonsense.Since Madonna moved to the Uk there is not a day she is not in the papers she's now writing kid's books for gods sake.
Look at the frenzy when Hugh Grant got caught with the Hooker that story went world wide how much cash did newspapers make that week.
Although most people don't care that much we all like to see some smart arse celeb get his or her's.how many of us are guilty of picking up a newspaper prompted by a juicy headline

Elspode 09-15-2003 06:11 PM

I agree 100%, Be-Bop. I nearly always pick up any paper with a headline like "Bat Boy to Join Crew of Next Space Shuttle Flight".

What's not to love?

seriously 09-15-2003 07:01 PM

It's not only you. I can't stand all this 'Bennifer' business. Who cares? And for one thing, they deserve some privacy. Everybody deserves their own privacy, right? And WHO CARES?! Why does it matter if they split up, if Ben went to a strip club, if Jennifer dumped him? W h y?

Pshhh.
