Good thing the President is a soothing steady hand on the tiller. /s

Of course the contingency plans to replace her are being activated now. It's the two minute drill of SCOTUS packing. Hut. Hut HIKE!

He (trump) will have a pick by next Friday, if he doesn't have one already.

In 2018, my daughter and I went to see RBG in the theater with a group of other moms and daughters. I didn't know much about RBG then. It was inspiring. We were both in awe of what this woman did, what she achieved, what an amazing attitude she had. Legend.

If Trump loses the election, he'll still have time to nominate himself for Supreme Court Justice and for the Senate to confirm him... to serve there for life.

I loved how she picked her battles so carefully, incrementally demonstrating how the law discriminated on the basis of gender, and taking cases with both male and female plaintiffs to really ram the point home.

It would be a nice time for the remaining Justices to get together a statement requesting that Trump and his cronies postpone a nomination.
Oh, but Thomas and Kavanaugh.

Clodfobble 09-19-2020 11:01 AM

Justice Stevens already declared Kavanaugh unfit, and he was voted in anyway. A statement from the existing Justices wouldn't mean shit.

What's actually happening on the ground, by the way, is women are starting to stockpile the Plan B pill, on the assumption that Roe v. Wade may be overturned in the coming years.

sexobon 09-19-2020 12:12 PM

That's what they get when they choose to let a Supreme Court legislate from the bench through its interpretation of the Constitution and its protections rather than Amending the Constitution to eliminate multiple interpretations. They don't complain about it when it works to their advantage even if some have to stockpile the Plan B pill or others have to stockpile ammunition. That's why they maintain the status quo. It may not be what they deserve; but, it's what they bargained for. Can you imagine if the women's right to vote was based on a Supreme Court decision rather than an Amendment. Complacent is as complacent does.

This was smart in a number of ways. One of which is popular opinion was allowed to keep pace. Now that we're in a place where the Supremes are out of touch with a fair percentage of the population Justice Roberts sensibly is trying to moderate the decisions.

Why, is it cold there? We could crowdfund for a heated blanket and slippers for you...

sexobon 09-19-2020 04:01 PM

Bunny slippers?
