Centrifuge Brain Project.

glatt 02-04-2013 08:34 PM

I love it. At first, I wanted to try those rides, but then...

Lamplighter 02-05-2013 08:46 AM

:D :D There are some great quotes in there

"Gravity is a mistake"

"Some of the test results that year were a little too extreme to be published"

A well done spoof

infinite monkey 02-06-2013 11:58 AM

Ya, mon, is true!

plthijinx 02-09-2013 01:42 PM

me wants!!!

Gravdigr 02-09-2013 04:50 PM

ƒucking. WANT.

Cool factor of 10^250.

orthodoc 02-09-2013 05:01 PM

That would be so cool for ... okay, it might ruin the cool factor, but adapting it for bariatric patients in hospital (would need a horizontal slider arrangement to get them on and off the bed) would save so many nursing aides' backs and necks! I see those injuries every day. Trying to get patients on and off the Hoyer lifts still results in injury. This thing, if it had a way to slide the seat and back support horizontally and you could just roll people onto it, would be tres cool. And they could manoeuver around much more independently, which would be good for them and also save staff injuries.

footfootfoot 03-09-2013 02:50 PM

While we're all emotionally raw, let's take a look at this

We Stopped Dreaming:

DanaC 03-10-2013 06:18 AM

Oh God, that video, Foots. It's beautiful. But I had to stop halfway. I was just crying too much. Gonna go back to it in a little while and try again. Also going to send a link to a few people.

DanaC 03-10-2013 06:20 AM

' and if a kid breaks in a school and noone around chooses to hear, do they make a sound?'

That bit floored me utterly.

DanaC 03-10-2013 06:23 AM

Wow. Glad I watched to the end.

orthodoc 03-10-2013 07:08 AM

I had a hard time getting through that video yesterday; it hit too close to home. But as you say, Dana, I'm glad I watched to the end.

A hiking club on Cape Cod, MA, put together some pictures of this winter's storm damage at Ballston Beach. It's notable how much worse it was this year than the last few years.

Recently he's been widely touted as a possible successor to Cameron as leader of the Conservative party :P

xoxoxoBruce 03-24-2013 05:16 PM

He's certainly qualified to carry on the present course.

DanaC 03-24-2013 05:18 PM

I love the cows! I know just how they feel.

Now check out this video on Price Rupert's Drop. tw would tell you to watch it 3 times to understand the sciencey part in the middle, but you can just watch it once for fun.

footfootfoot 03-25-2013 11:54 AM

very cool. Where is that video of the detonation sequence during the building of the Alaska Pipeline?

DanaC 03-25-2013 01:15 PM

glatt that was awesome.

glatt 03-25-2013 02:32 PM

I've been spending way too much time watching some of his other videos. The guy is sharp and interesting. How have I never seen him before?

Cute Chicks

footfootfoot 03-31-2013 12:43 PM

Friends of mine accidentally duplicated their chick order one year. (poor communication)

They ended up with 5400 chicks. The racket at the post office must have been deafening.
The post office is open on Sunday and call you to come get them asap.

Clodfobble 03-31-2013 09:03 PM

I still fail to see how 2700 chicks would be considered reasonable. But I bet they were adorable!

My mom says that when she was little you could dye fertilized chicken eggs and the chicks would hatch with their fuzz stained whatever color the shell was dyed. A rainbow collection of chicks every Easter. Supposedly it was decided to be animal cruelty and the practice was stopped.

xoxoxoBruce 03-31-2013 10:16 PM

Grandfather got 50,000 baby chicks, three times a year.

They would have if it had been economically viable. The Post Office was the link to the outside world, Sears Roebuck, "Monkey" Ward, and the US Government.

Gravdigr 04-01-2013 09:23 AM

I was filling Popdigr in on some of this, and he said that his Granddad once got five hundred quail chicks (chicks, not eggs, you can still get quail eggs by mail order) through the mail. Mailman told him to please come to the p.o. to get them ASAP.

Gravdigr 04-01-2013 12:14 PM

Best of use of an iPhone yet.
