I agree. I just found this thread this AM. Now I will try to get some pics.

FWIW - Fall is the best time as the weather changes. Spring has its varietals also, but this last two years have been really odd and the summers have been productive as well.

I just saw about a hundred of these in some guys yard. I'm not sure what they are either, I didn't have my book nor enough time to take a really good look.

I got it - it's an Amanita, but I'm not sure which. I didn't think so at first as they are typically very colorful or completely white. However there is a common variety that looks just like this. Not that common to me - its only June!

Shawnee123 06-23-2009 03:18 PM

Ya thievin' bastard!

Those look like sesame seed mushrooms.

Thanks all, I'm gonna go with this one. Had I searched "Fungus" like and intelligent man, that would have solved the issue long ago. Now if I could only remember why I was looking for this thread in the first place...

So - since I have a little free time on my hands being unemployed at this most beautiful time of year, I've been out hunting and foraging a bit. I've been finding a good number of shrooms out there, but many were too small and/or immature to harvest.
The well known Chicken Mushroom. Same shroom - one week apart. Note the size of the Swiss Army knife - also the same knife. Dealing with too many issues trying to resize images today. Was gonna show how much it grew, but ... sorry.

lumberjim 10-24-2016 03:53 PM

Does it taste like chicken?

classicman 10-24-2016 08:20 PM

yep, thats where the name comes from.

Benny and I found two sets of these yesterday. Delicious?

BigV 10-11-2020 08:53 PM

Not to the eye!

monster 10-11-2020 10:36 PM

Fabulous, Griff. You could eat it. Maybe only once.

Griff 10-12-2020 06:06 AM

I just love the look of them, that is some other-worldly nonsense. ...and probably delicious.

BigV 10-12-2020 06:11 PM

Classicman says DO NOT EAT!

He did not, however, comment on how they taste.

Flint 10-12-2020 06:35 PM

c.man is a mushroom wizard. I've seen some things on his posts that are out -of-this-world

monster 10-12-2020 07:37 PM

I'm not sure c,man is a good abbreviation

Griff 10-12-2020 08:26 PM

Are you cancelling flint? Damn no free speech here at all!

Flint 10-12-2020 10:16 PM

ah'll be back

Gravdigr 10-13-2020 07:20 PM

I hope you get run over by a train.

monster 10-18-2020 11:01 PM

STOP THAT. The Cellar continues, just at a different URL. Flint just lived up to his name and provided a spark ....which unfortunately ignited the methane from ancient shit that got dug up and new shit that was laid on top of it. Fires and the subsequent regrowth are a natural part of the cycle. And fungi are helpful too! Maybe some interesting new ones will pop up to help out. But if that happens to be in the form of an iridescent jock itch, please don't share....
