night photography

My walk home from the studio is about 600' of trail / road, without any traffic ever, and fairly minimal light pollution. When the moon isn't up, I use a headlamp -- when the moon is up, I tend to see a lot more shooting stars.

Took a little while to sit in the road and take photos tonight. ISO100, f2.0, 50 and 60s exposure.

What LJ said. The mood is very intriguing

How did you compensate for motions of stars and the moon ?

gvidas 07-03-2010 09:44 AM

Thanks, guys.

I didn't compensate at all. Just a point and shoot camera sitting on the ground, propped up on the lens cap.

I think that there's less-visible star motion in some parts of the photos because I was taking them mostly to the north west, north, and northeast. From what I remember of astronomy, the perceivable rotation of the earth is less when you're looking at something along the axis, i.e. the north star.

I'm impressed... for 50 or 60 sec exposures, you are very steady !

Beautiful!
What are those sideways hammock looking thingies?

Beautiful. Nice job.

Lovely. I miss the same kind of walks home from the studio. I used a head lamp book light usually. I do miss the solitary walks and all the stars! Thank you for posting this.

I'm wondering, too, what those tripod-ish thing-a-ma-bobs are.

ETA: Nice pics. (I wish I could do more than eight-second exposures w/my camera.)

Nice clear views of Ursa Major and Cassiopeia!

That's a tricky question. On my end, I'm trying to figure out how best to live with myself. Lately the result has been a handful of painted doodles (doodling with paint: pushing paint for its own sake.)

That's a nice walk home from a studio.
