June 20, 2013 - Riding a 61-foot Wave
http://cellar.org/2013/Dollar1.jpg
Shawn Dollar of Santa Cruz (surfer heaven), California, is the surfer in the photo. The place is Cortes Bank, California. The time is December 21, 2012. Guinness World Records has logged this moment as the largest wave ever surfed via the traditional paddle-in method. The ride earned Shawn $30,000 at the 2013 Billabong XXL Big Wave Awards for winning both the Pacifico Paddle Award and the XXL Biggest Wave title. Check out this video of Shawn describing the event of his life. Wow - it is hard for me to wrap my brain around that wave being 61-feet high. How high is that? I need to relate it to something tangible . . . via GrindTV PS: How big/small is the font on your screen? On my old laptop, this size came out a lot larger than it does on this borrowed laptop. (Just need to get a hard drive to get my life back . . .) |
It's not the only photo of its type, but

I thought about a Laird Hamilton video I saw and thought "that's not such a big wave." then I saw the part about paddling in. Never mind.
