Jan 7, 2011: Panda Cow

I was saving this for Friday, and in the meantime it's been all over.

Quote:

The miniature panda cow is the result of 44 years of genetic manipulation by Richard Gradwohl, a farmer in Covington, Wash., about 20 miles southeast of Seattle.
Although the calf's name is Ben, so it may be a Panda Bull.

He describes the breed that he has trademarked as an eight-breed composite, drawing on previous strains of miniature cattle that he also developed. “There are 26 breeds of miniature cattle in the world, and we developed 18 of them,” said Gradwohl who has seven of the existing 24 panda cows on his Happy Mountain Farm. Miniature panda calves sell for as much as $30,000 from Gradwohl’s online clearinghouse for mini-cow aficionados.
Gradwohl was quoted in the Washington Post saying these were meant to be pets.
Well the Japs just paid $396,000 for one Tuna, so don't bet on it.

"Genetic manipulation"? Is that what you kids are calling it these days? ;)

I thought these already existed? My sister and I always called them Oreo cows, but a search just now revealed them to be 'Belted Galloways.'

Next it will be dogs and cats, sleeping together, and a giant twinkie.

His next project is breeding traffic cones.

But I think he had to breed the face, for the whole "panda" thing.

Why? Because people want pets they can't housebreak? :eyebrow:

Shawnee123 01-07-2011 01:07 PM

But 'vana, I've always wanted a pet cow! Just a little brown cutie-pie with great big eyes. I'd hug her every day. But yeah, not in the house! :)
