See Max.
See Max romp.
Romp, Max, romp.

When hip problems forced Max the springer spaniel to retire from the police force, it looked as though this particular dog had had his day.
Until he found a new best friend - in a custom-made set of wheels.
The chariot-style apparatus enables nine-year-old Max to romp about the garden like a puppy.
'He absolutely loves running around in the leaves,' said his new owner, Inspector Anne Higgins, from Tiverton, Devon.
'He used to work searching for drugs and now he searches for a ball instead and he just considers the wheels as part of his work.
'They allow him to do a lot more and go further. He can get up a lot of speed and it can sometimes be quite difficult to keep up with him.'
It seems when Max couldn't work anymore, because of hip dysplasia and arthritis, the Police charity had a custom set of wheels made for him.
They also found Max a new home for his retirement. Good for them. :thumb:

He's pulling a wheelie!

Max the springer is maxing his spring now!
I was nearly in the market for a dog cart at one time for my German shepherd. They were quite expensive then, but when a thousand bucks allows your dog friend to stay with you longer the choice was easy. (He eventually recovered without the need of a cart)

OK, why do they have to charge $1000 for something that looks only a little more complicated than the wheel set-up for a portable grill?

sweetwater 11-25-2008 07:26 AM

A: Because they know frantic owners will pay it
B: Because the components must be chosen for each individual dog's size and the particular health issue
C: It must be comfortable for the dog and easy for the owner to use
D: And mostly A :)

I know...I was just saying. I figured materials and workmanship help to make it expensive. Still. You are right though, its mostly A...exploiting the love we have for our pets because they can...:yelgreedy.

Just shows the Brits are crazy. First they don't let most of their cops carry guns, then they give them Springer Spaniels as police dogs. Most Springers are hard-pressed to jump up past your knees. How are they going to go for the throat to disable a bad guy, unless the bad guy kneels down and offers his throat to the dog?

Shawnee123 11-25-2008 12:33 PM

I read that as "First they don't let most of their dogs carry guns..." and thought "Why, those crazy Brits!" :lol2:

Cloud 11-25-2008 01:10 PM

he was a sniffer, not an attacker, though
