Cold War Warrior Award 2008

A parachute descends somewhere in the Eastern Bloc, circa 1970. A man, bundled up in jump gear cuts cords and disentangles the chute before vanishing into a nearby woods. Falling snow covers his prints within a few minutes. His mission, so secret he barely understands it himself, sends him deep underground. His contacts, so secret their families have long since buried their memories, welcome him with a few sharp words and small bundle of papers. How long will he be in the Great Bear's lair? Who knows......but he is prepared for a long stay.

Almost 40 years later and the war is fading into memory. But not for the cold war warrior. From the same woods into which he'd disappeared, he returns. Still ready. Still armed for the fight, though his enemies have long since opened bars and taken on jobs as porters in cheap hotels. Their children, grown, unwary, peaceful.

He is not alone. Dotted about the cities of Russia and America, the cold war warriors are waiting. Ever vigilant. Ever ready to spin into action against the greatest of enemies.

I propose a special medal. An award of bravery and stubbornness, blindness and stupidity. I nominate Urbane Guerilla for the Cold War Warrior Award 2008. Who do you nominate?

al-Queada, the next wave.

Some must continue inventing enemies. Or protect real enemies (ie bin Laden) to justify their politics.

So by that statement you believe that al-Queada is not real and is no threat. About time you admitted it outright.

Ooh, more nominees by the minute, carry on please.

And you're suggesting some dudes in the mountains of Afghanistan are as capable as the USSR. Whaaaaa????

well, those guys in the mountains of afghanistan did defeat the USSR...

Those guys in the caves planned, organized, and executed an audacious plan to slam four large passenger planes into landmark buildings in the U.S. in 2001. I'd have to say that based on the evidence at hand that there is a real enemy there.

That doesn't mean they are the only enemies of the U.S. There are many more, in different shapes and forms. It is important to take as best of an unbiased look at who our enemies are, as we can.

To not do so, is what I might call leading with the chin, and unrealistic in this day and age. Heck in any day and age.

Why does George Jr all but protect the Real Al Qaeda? Al Qaeda hyped by George Jr is a mythical enemy found in Iraq.

When do we go after bin Laden? A recent GAO report said, we had no plans - no attempts - to get bin Laden AND we have no future plans to go after him - and the Real Al Qaeda.

Al Qaeda hyped by TheMercenary - a lover of mental midget presidents - is only another party in an Iraqi Civil war. Are these hypermythical satanic evils a threat to the US? Of course not. Never were. Obviously are not. A myth created alongside another George Jr myth: repeated attempts to capture bin Laden.

TheMercenary and UG both know reality exposes a dumb and anti-American idol - George Jr.

So anti-American are both TheMercenary and Urbane Guerrilla. Neither will ask a question always asked by intelligent and patriotic Americans. When do we go after bin Laden? They so fear to ask that question as to even suggest bin Laden was dead.

The question makes obvious that George Jr has all but protected bin Laden for a political agenda – to even promote “Mission Accomplished”. And makes obvious who is the real Al Qaeda. So successful has President Cheney's politicala agenda been implemented that "Missiona Accomplished" will not be lost on his watch. Just like Nixon in Nam; this president's legacy is more important than reality and America.

To promote that agenda, Rush Limbaugh, et al tells Urbane Guerrilla and TheMercenary how to think.

Not the next wave, but a new threat. The Cold War Warriors are looking in the wrong direction when they cry reds under the bed.

And you are extremely naive. Please share with us your wealth of experience in this matter. Thanks.

Nice try at avoiding the subject. It will not work. You are an appeaser. A cock sucker for liberals and supporters of international terrorism. Strawman arguements can not save you Tommy. You are the a far cry from a patriot. I did find your pic on the web:

And is Obama going after him if/when in office? Please do tell almighty and all knowing T-Dub.

Somebody oughtta Photoshop old Ted's pic so he's got his finger up that nose.

I already answered tw about when do we go after bin Laden. It being the right answer, it was of course not the one he wanted to hear, so he failed to pull his finger out in time to hear it. [It's a nice-to-have, but not an essential; going after al-Q is what will win. Tw thinks we shouldn't.] We know tw's sort better than tw does. Also, we should speak of him in the third person.

Meanwhile, somebody pass me a latte. This looks like it may be fun to watch, and I think I should stay passive. Except maybe to prick tw in the touch-hole from time to time.
