Jan 23, 2009: Cariboucicle
Well it's Friday, which means critter time in IOtD.
Usually the Friday critter is a warm and fuzzy type, but today is cold and fuzzy. Jonco, over at Bits & Pieces, posted these pictures with the explanation; Quote:

Dip that sucker in warm chocolate and you got yourself a tasty treat!
|
Man that is not good.. I need to burn more hydrocarbons for those poor things..
|
Not the normal warm and fuzzy Friday fare, but freeze-dried does eliminate some storage issues.
|
Well, when an Alaskan cop yells "FREEZE!!!" they mean business.
|
A death worse than fate!
And just because she's frigid doesn't make her a 'she'. |
Looks like they would know how to avoid this fate. I'm sure it's not the first time the caribou has dealt with this. Almost makes me want to call shenanigans. Sad. But since it happened already... somebody build a goddam fire and break out the BBQ sauce.

There's a Palin joke in here somewhere.....
|
Where can I find the caribou? In the frozen food section.
|
MMM caribou-cicles. It even has fudge filling!

Now I'm not sure if it is the plural of doe, or does as in done did. If you intended the double meaning, I applaud you. Nay, I worship you! |
Plural is D'oh. :D

If only we'd have drilled in ANWR. She could have found warm refuge near the working pumps.
|
I've seen many instances of deer/elk/caribou getting stuck while going through deep drifts. They freeze to death, the snow either melts or blows away, and leaves an erect (well, upright, anyway) dead, frozen solid "statue" of the animal.
Pretty freakin' cool. |
