February 4, 2015: Yayoi Kusama's "Obliteration Room"

My Modern Metropolis features this item today; on a Queensland Art Gallery installation by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, "The Obliteration Room".

Quote:

Started back on December 6, 2014 and through April 19, 2015, Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama is once again showing The Obliteration Room.

As GOMA states, "When leading contemporary Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama was a young girl, she started seeing the world through a screen of tiny dots. They covered everything she saw – the walls, ceilings, and even her own body. In her artwork, Kusama has used dots to cover many different surfaces and fill rooms. She calls this process 'obliteration', which means the complete destruction of every trace of something."
So they start with an all-white room,

And give children and child-like adults a bunch of round stickers to place anywhere.

And eventually...

I went to some place like that where you were invited to use a crayon to write on the walls. It looked similar.

Some dude had written way up high "I'm tall." So I took that as a challenge and reached up to write above it "I'm taller."

True story.

Half the dots they passed out were white, so you can't see them.
Except for the big one on the seated child's shirt.

I don't suppose it is important, but I think there are different rooms shown.
