Neat pictures I've taken

2 Attachment(s)
I thought it would be good to have a thread for random neat pictures that Dwellars have taken. There are many specific threads out there (colors, close-ups, etc.,) and I like those, but sometimes an original picture doesn't have enough that is interesting about it to sustain a whole thread. Feel free to put those original images here. This isn't meant as a thread for images found on the web. Please don't post it unless you took it.

So here are two pictures I took last night with my kids. We had fun doing these, and a bunch more.

Tripod.
Laser pointer.
ISO 80. Smallest aperture. 60 second exposure.

Sperlock 12-01-2007 11:12 AM

Very cool idea, glatt. Thanks for sharing.

Undertoad 12-01-2007 11:56 AM

Awesome Glatt. Mine are interesting from a totally different perspective.

When you have a pretty bad clog in your pipes, your plumber may not be able to clear it using augers or chemicals. If the leak isn't moving, the chems won't reach it. If builder put in tight joints, an auger can't reach very far through the pipes.

Then the plumber has to find another point where the drain drains, to try to use the auger there, closer to the clog. To do that, he may have to make several holes in your drywall. If the sink is on an upper floor and the pipes for it aren't straight down, it may take several holes to find it.

http://cellar.org/2007/damage1.jpg

If he doesn't find it inside, he may look under your soffets. (The incoming water turned out to be there.)

http://cellar.org/2007/damage5.jpg

Once the drain pipe is located, he'll have to put yet another hole in your wall to attach a T-joint so he can use the auger from there. It's especially nice if it's right next to the electrical. And behind your 250 lb. "entertainment center"

http://cellar.org/2007/damage2.jpg

If you put chemicals in your pipe to try to clear the clog, at this point they will all drain out into your living room. If your plumber is experienced he will catch this stuff in a bucket without getting caustically burned himself.

http://cellar.org/2007/damage3.jpg

Total bill: $752.30 and I will have to fix this damage myself. Maybe in the Spring. Where is that procrastination thread?

I like those fireworks, Bullitt.

This picture is nothing special, but we had fun making the gingerbread house. No, a kid didn't do the roof. That was me.

Highlights of the visit that day were 1) the mama lion going nuts because she wanted to get back in where I imagine her cubs were. Pacing around and roaring and jumping up on the steel door to look through the window to them. Over and over again. It drew quite a crowd. After the incident in San Francisco, I admit I got a bit of an adrenaline rush watching her all agitated. 2) Watching a male orangutan hump a female in a semi missionary position, stop, bend down to sniff her crotch, and then continue. He was sort of standing up, but squatting with his pelvis only a couple inches off the floor while she was leaning back against the wall, looking all bored. Come to think of it, he looked bored too. And then 3) watching another orangutan chew up a bunch of food for a while, spit it out onto the floor, and then start chewing it again. It repeated this 2-3 times before we left.

Good times.

Is that what was going on? When I was there, all of the lions and the tiger were extremely agitated. The lionesses were pacing by the door, and the tiger and the male lion were at the top of their habitat, looking over the wall into the lionesses' section. The tiger was roaring, almost constantly.

Usually, all they do is sleep.

May be a silly thing but, building insurance?
Or, when building a house don't bury pipes inside the dry lining!
Better still, don't put crap down the plug (stopper) hole!

Our moles are nasty creatures. Yep, them are big things thar!
There have been bear, cougar and deer on the property as well. 'Tis nice.

This is a picture of the south shore of Flathead Lake from the KwaTaqNuk Inn. It was made by stitching together 5 individual 4000x3000 pixel photos, then trimmed and reduced in size to fit the 1600 max width for jpeg uploads.

The full-scale panorama was about 13,000 pixels wide.
