I've seen Islamic art and decoration in Egypt.
It really is gorgeous. When William Morris used it as a basis for one of hss many styles, he was careful to leave a tiny line somewhere on the animal (usually birds) to reflect the Muslim beief that not living animal should be depicted in art. Same reason for some of the extraordinary scultures in strictly Islamic countries. |

That's a really impressive structure. It looks really classy, but I bet if I could read Arabic, those words would jump out at me, and the structure wouldn't speak as loudly.
It like how sometimes pop foreign language songs sound better than pop English songs, because you can ignore the lyrics and just hear the music. You assume the lyrics are something really amazing, when really they are just mindless drivel. |
