What draws you back to the Cellar?
I'm sure this has been addressed sometime in the past, but there are lots of us newer folks so i'm curious - why are you here? What is it that made the Cellar stick in your head enough that you repeatedly come back? What do you get out of the Cellar to make the time spent here a worthwhile investment?
I've really been thinking about this one, because I obviously spend quite a bit of time here. I will post my thoughts in awhile, but I am curious about the rest of you. |
I'm just a glutton for punishment. :D

its sorta like that cool neiborhood bar you stumble up on ever now and then , where the mix of folks range from collage profecers and brick layers to net geeks ( no offence intended ) and electritions . collage prof's and brick layers haveing a drink and a friendly argument about politics , or economics , or the best way to fry cat fish . :D
An intresting mix of folks with MANY view points and opinions . |
If I had to pick a top, number one reason? It's because you guys make me laugh. I appreciate nothing more than a good, dry wit, and there are several here.

I'm doing research on my PhD thesis on life amongst the dregs of humanity. :D

I come back to the Cellar just to give Lookout a hard time. :3eye:
Plus, this place is just strangely addictive. I have yet to figure it out. |
I have nothing better to do...and someone's gotta keep you bitches in line. :)

The sparkling personalities.
Y'know, I think the IotD got me here in the first place (it was linked in someone's sig at Slashdot, probably UT). I spent my first couple of days here going through the IotD archives. I kept coming back because I found the people fascinating and, as Clodfobble pointed out, funny. My first post was, I think, about something I had heard on NPR about a Muslim(?) holy day during which people bloodied themselves up pretty good. I half expected Dave to send me packing, but no one gave me grief so I hung around. Actually, I hang around because I just *live* for Tomas' Friday posts. |

Mostly boredom to be honest, too much time spent stuck places without much to do that and the 1-in-100 thread that really sparks my interest.

Good question. I think it's probably one of the few places I can go and get the right wing perspective in a way that doesnt make my skin crawl .....ouch did I just say that? Apparently I did. I sometimes find myself drawn back to try and set something straight, usually when I percieve an unfair balance of power in an issue......But I am also drawn because I think most cellarites are smart in some area, myself included and that makes for an interesting exchange of ideas. I have on a few occasions been made aware of a different analysis of issues I thought I knew well enough and that has given my own perspective on those things a little more depth I think.
Most of the people here are also funny. By which I mean amusing, not bitchy, though hell they can be that too. As of course can I. Be bitchy I mean, Id leave others to judge humour. Ultimately though I suppose I have become accustomed to your [cyber]faces |
All I can say is most of you have the same opinions as I about:
Whiskey Women In-laws Outlaws Drug Laws Gun Laws Sex Social libertarianism Being an attention whore and not getting shit about it and last but not least: Naked Twister I love you guys! |
I like bitching about politics

the fresh sticky buns.

I come to The Cellar time and again simply because it is the one place where I can be as psychotic as I want and everyone thinks I'm just being clever.
