Man Attempts Suicide by Crucifixion

HARTLAND, ME — A Hartland man was treated at a Pittsfield hospital after he nailed himself to a cross. The 23-year-old man apparently was trying to commit suicide Thursday evening in his living room, the Bangor Daily News reported.

Here's my favorite part.

"When he realized that he was unable to nail his other hand to the board, he called 911," Boucher said.

Did this not seem to be an obvious obstacle during the planning phase of this procedure?

Oh...and I just want to go on record as saying that this was probably caused by that religious film of Mel Gibson's, and I plan on leading a crusade to eliminate violence in religious entertainment.

He claims he hasn't seen it.

I thought the only people that crucified themselves were Catholic Filipinos.

And even *they* need someone else to drive the nails.

Yeah, maybe...but I'll bet the liberal media has made him very much aware of it, so I'm going to have to protest against them as well.

The man obviously needs some wolf flavor help.

xoxoxoBruce 03-18-2004 07:46 PM

Naw, he just needs someone to nail the other hand.:)

lumberjim 03-18-2004 07:50 PM

he laid the cross out on his floor. how the fuck did he expect to die from 2 nail wounds in his hands? faker

Pi 03-19-2004 02:50 AM

If he'd managed to nail both his hands, I think he would have died. Those who died crucified, didn't die because of crucifixion, but because of thirst, hunger and wild lions...

I believe suffocation is part of the mix as well, that's why the Romans sometimes broke the legs. It speeds the process along... of course you'd have to be hanging for it to work.

dar512 03-19-2004 11:12 AM

Actually you are both right. It depended on whether they tied you to the cross or nailed you. Nailing was actually considered "more merciful" because you died faster.

They just wanted attention. He got an article written about him, he got some help. Mission accomplished.

Quzah.
