That's not pork. Or beef. Or chicken. Or fish. But it's definitely fresh! (This is first Pic o' Day submission and I'm not sure if I did it right.) |
Ew. Do. Not. Want.
Long pig--gross! |
Sit. Stay. They sure are easy to train.
Good thing its not friday, I guess. |
I did not need to be reminded of that practice. The title should have warned me off but I was too curious.

Although I find the idea of eating dog meat revolting, it's really only a matter of what you're used to culturally.
Actually, here's a funny story I saw on Rove on Sunday night. A couple of well known comedians, Hamish and Andy, were in Bejing doing all sorts of stupid stuff, and one of them was to go to a restaraunt which served all sorts of animal penis. One of the dishes was dog penis. They funny part about it was watching them trying to figure out what sort of penis they were eating. Anyway, just thought I'd share that. |
I don't know what I find more amusing - the guy's smile or the handbag hanging off the meat hook.
|
*Camera bag*. I have the same bag at home. Smile is creepy, though... must be a cat person.

I can tell a lot about a person from their face, and the expression on it. I'll tell you this:
That guy is an asshole. truly |
In some remote cultures (maybe not now, but recently) it was totally OK to eat long-pig. So. If that's part of their culture, why shouldn't they be allowed to practice it? Who are WE to impose our rules on THEM? Who are we to say ethnic cleansing isn't wrong? If a country hates a certain group of inferior or non-indigenous people, shouldn't they be, culturally speaking, allowed to keep their culture "pure"? If it is Islamic law to kill your daughter for flirting or having premarital sex or whatever....if that is their CULTURE, they should continue with impunity. What of the African tribes who practice clitorectomy as part of their culture? Who the HELL are we to try to stop it???
many questions come up when we are talking "culture" |
The smile looks to me more like "I'm very nervous and uncomfortable here but I don't want to show it because it might offend the guy with the bloody meat cleaver who is looking at me in a business-like way..."
|
Also, I agree with Ali that our hang-ups about eating dog are mostly cultural. I also have hangups about hygiene, refrigeration, humane killing of food animals and lots of other cissy things like that.
What a wimp. |
