July 16, 2008: Breaking (egg) News

From The Arab Aquarius blog, via Bifurcated Rivets.

A giant McDonald's billboard, shaped like an egg, in Chicago.
Quote:

The giant egg billboard starts cracking and opening up in the wee hours of morning. By breakfast time, the egg has already hatched, and you can see "Fresh Eggs Daily" written on the egg's yolk.

The egg stays open from 6:00AM till 10:30AM, to indicate the availability of fresh eggs during that time. Once the breakfast time is finished, the egg billboard shuts and stays closed as a whole egg till the next morning.
I'm not so sure of the word "hatched"... no chicken.

They're gonna have to sell a lot of eggs to pay for that sucker.

Agree, I've seen and heard the word hatch misused a lot, even applied to mammals.

Quote from Wordnet:
hatch (emerge from the eggs) "young birds, fish, and reptiles hatch"

I think that's kind of neat.

It reminds me of this guy I used to work with at the bar. He was telling me he went to McDonald's at like 10:20 in the a.m. He asked for an Egg McMuffin and was told breakfast was over. He called the number he found for, I don't know, regional headquarters or something, and when they answered he said "Can you tell me what time it is?" "Yes sir, it's 10:27 a.m." "Then can you tell my why I can't get an Egg f*cking McMuffin?"

This is the same guy who was bringing me orders into the bar kitchen at an alarming rate. We were packed. We were packed with a group that was not quite typical for this bar (scary folks.) He said "I bet if we hit the trailer parks we could steal a ton of stuff, because they're all here tonight." I replied with "Yeah, but how many black velvet Elvis paintings do you really need?"

That egg is begging for a tagging.

I always willing to give shops/ restaurants/ fast food places some leeway on their official times in order to prevent waste.

However it is give & take.
If they follow the letter of the law when it comes to timing I would be more likely to create a fuss. I don't think I've ever needed a McMuffin enough to call the HQ :)

However I did squeal on my local deli. The owner and manager were out and the staff said they couldn't serve me because they were closing early. I only wanted olives - to take away. There were people eating, who would have been there for at least another half hour. But apparently they'd been packed all day and hadn't had time for a break. Yeah, welcome to the real world. I'm after olives, not a 4 person drink and sandwich order.

So I mentioned it in passing to the boss the next time I was in there. Serves the staff right - I was a regular customer up until that point and I think they should have acknowledged that. It wasn't even close to closing time.

Anyway. God I'm in a ranty mood today!
I love the egg. Very clever.
Just hope they're free range ;)

lol, knowing Heath he didn't need the Egg McMuffin, but loved the chance to push the buttons of the local McD mafia family! :)

Chicago, home of the gigantic silver egg called Cloud Gate. The billboard is a great idea but I wish it was for something better than McDonald's, like maybe the Field Museum's dinosaur exhibit.

Wait a minute, wait just a minute! Fresh eggs? Who do they think they are kidding? :greenface
