December 8, 2011: Man-cave for sale

I was browsing on a real estate website and came across this ... errr ... gem. One for the single man. With lots of money. And free time.

To whet the appetite, I'll start with the floor plan:

Attachment 35761

Yeah, lots of "workshop" space.

Guy must do a lot of "work".

Attachment 35762

Yes that is a working car hoist. There are also air hoses and extractor fans.

Err, yes, that is a giant monopoly board on the floor. Except the properties are car companies. I think I see a theme emerging here.

This is where he works on his car restoration project!

Of course, it's not all hard work.

Attachment 35763

Yes, hard at "work" in the "workshop", dear, I'll heat up something for dinner here.

Attachment 35764

That thing in the bottom right corner is the "kitchen".

There are toilets and an office which could be converted to a bedroom.

Full details and more photos at the link. It's in quite a nice suburb about twenty to thirty minutes drive from downtown, depending on traffic. All yours for a mere $440,000.

I'm going to steal some of those ideas for when I build my second garage - except for the monopoly board.

jimhelm 12-08-2011 08:18 AM

gonna go with Twister instead?

infinite monkey 12-08-2011 08:23 AM

When I win the lottery, my dad is getting a place just like that.

HungLikeJesus 12-08-2011 08:26 AM

Maybe a chess board, with cars and motorcycles for the pieces.

Yeah yeah yeah, Zen, but there is one big catch... it's in ADELAIDE!

Did you know that, if you wanted to emigrate to Australia, you got extra points on your application if you agreed to live in Adelaide for at least two years? Seriously. That's how bad it is. You NEED a man cave like that to ease the depression.

So what makes Adelaide so unappealing ?

From Google map and street views it seems the housing and neighhoods are in good order, maybe a bit crowded, but well kept.
It was 79 degrees, so not too hot - today.

ZenGum 12-09-2011 12:55 AM

Well, our houses don't have bedrooms or bathrooms, for one thing. :D

Seriously, the only things you can really complain about for Adelaide are due to it being smallish and isolated.

Major events frequently don't come here - just the big cities of Sydney, Melbourne, often Brisbane, sometimes Perth to cover the West.
The population here is a little over a million, so there isn't the numbers to sustain a large nightclub or live music scene. Public transport is poor.

As a place to visit it isn't too much, except during "mad March" when all the festivals and events are on. As a place to live it is lovely. Clean(ish) air, mild weather (mostly), modest traffic, lots of parks and reserves, safe beaches, hills with gorges, and most of the facilities of a major city - we've even got a zoo with pandas, dammit.

sandypossum 12-09-2011 02:05 AM

What what WHAT?! You actually live there? (How did I ever miss the Badelaide in your location?) I'm so sorry, Zen :( had no idea. My condolences...

I used to go and visit friends there regularly, and it always seemed to be either scorching / unbearably hot, or brass-monkey / unbearably cold. And I recall being in the middle of town at 10pm on a Saturday night and n..o..t..h..i..n..g was happening.

Except, as you say, in March. Been there during the festival and it is indeed fab. I also agree about the zoo - a very nice one - and I like the pie floater van (I think I must be about the last person in the country who makes them for dinner parties) and do you still have Johnny Haysman in Rundle Mall? Was just trying to google a link for those who don't know of him, but can't find any current links. Surely Johnny hasn't karked it?

Other than that... well, it's said to be a great place to raise your kids, eh?

You're a brave, brave man, Zen. (Well, I've always assumed you're a bloke. Maybe not?)

ZenGum 12-09-2011 07:35 AM

I'm a lesbian trapped in the body of a man. :D

True about the occasional summer heatwave, but winter is mild, and never below freezing.

But yeah, if you want nightclub action, I guess Fish River is the pace to be. ;)

Sounds like 95% of the US.

richlevy 12-09-2011 07:34 PM

So what you're saying is that there's a town full of bored and lonely Australian women with no nighttime entertainment outside the home.;)

Now if they all looked like Ducks......
