Wow.

I'm not really a fan of orange on the desktop, but if I could get THAT in 1600x1200, I might make an exception. That is seriously very awesome.

Here's another sunset pic...one of my favorites, although not anywhere near as spectacular as that pro shot.

This was taken at an altitude of about 3,000 feet...and the sun is setting in the right-hand edge of the picture. Directly below the puffy little cloud just to the left of center are the cooling towers of the Limmerick power plant, which is about 25 miles to the west of the airplane at the time the picture was taken, on the way home to Pottstown Municipal Airport after a flight over Princeton NJ.

Did the original picture come out grainy or what?

If not, if you wanted to send it to me, I wouldn't mind scanning it and touching it up so it was nice and crisp and whatnot. Having a high quality scan to play with really could make an awesome desktop.

But only if you're game, of course - your picture, not mine :)

MaggieL 01-25-2002 01:23 PM

Some of the grainyness is color enhance and sharpness filters to deal with the haze in the air and glare and scratches on the plexiglass windshield. The original itself is not particularly grainy, but it is darkish, especially the detail on the ground; the sun hadn't set at 3,000' but it was already twilight on the ground.

Getting a good scan here is tricky because the scanner we have is Windows only, and the only windows machine we have left is a hoky little notebook. Email me your snailmail address at maggie@volcenet .com and you can take a crack at it.

Here's my neighborhood from the air, BTW...house in the circle is mine.

dave 01-25-2002 01:41 PM

We have a bunch of pictures (closer than that, though) of my house in Mt. Airy. I don't think dad has flown since he got the Fairfax house, though, so no pictures of that. Oh well. We have some satellite pictures of my work and the house and whatnot, however, Those are pretty cool. :)

Wow. Culp's picture is quite impressive =]

Here's a local sunshot. Wasn't sunrise or sunset though.

[Edit; that picture shouldn't be THAT big! Uhm? ]
[Edit: I'm very glad it does not show how many edits I've done to this post =] ]

scampo 01-27-2002 08:54 AM

Torrere's picture is my new desktop. Thanks.

Torrere 01-27-2002 01:50 PM

Welcome, and thank you =]

Another picture of the same event is on my desktop too. Chose to post this one because it had the most of the cloud. The actual picture is 1280x960 if you want a larger version.

dave 01-27-2002 05:26 PM

Upload it or send it or something. I'll use it at work. 1280x1024 is the lowest resolution I use, and that's 'cause I can't get 1600x1200 out of the P.O.S on-board video on the fucking Dell Dimension in my office...

Awww, you're so famous! Can I get your autograph? :)

Nice pic though, seriously.

Torrere 01-29-2002 12:38 AM

Wow. I haven't checked The Cellar in over 24 hours. Yay, a personal first (least in the past few months)!

Anyway, the link for my sun pictures is here .
