September 1, 2012 - Green Roof School

http://cellar.org/2012/Modern-Green-...-Designs-1.jpg

This is Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, an art school that has gone green.

At the height of the building is green turfed roof which blends with ground contour. The turfed roofscape is functional space that is easily accessible via sidesteps along the roof edges, allowing the roof to be a lovely outside communal space.

Oddly worded article and more pics can be found at On Home Interiors.

As soon as I saw that building I knew, KNEW, it wasn't in America.

We like our bldgs square and gray.

The Sainsbury's I used to shop in when I lived in Greenwich had a similar "hill" although it didn't cover the whole supermarket. I think it was used for insulation for the warehousing. The grass always looked healthy I must say. There were also a couple of pools out back that weren't landscaped so I could only assume they had a purpose (car drivers wouldn't have seen them, only people like me who hauled shopping home on shanks pony).

It also had a couple of its own wind turbines - I think it was as close to a zero carbon footprint as was possible back then.

I liked.

Well, okay. I liked a lot because it was my nearest supermarket, they advertised the times and dates of food sampling in advance and it was enormous. No moans about the level of stock in that store! We won't talk about the time I had the screaming ab-dabs in there because it wasn't the store's fault.

Last I heard, energy efficiency was un-American and anti-Capitalist.

As un-Merkin as God and individual thought.

Oh heavens, we wouldn't want something like that in OUR country. I mean, think of the power company shareholders/executives! Being green in more than name only might actually catch on and then where would they be? :sniff:

Ahem... even one in Tennessee.

Reminds me of Parliament House which also has a curved grass roof. It's just up the road from me.
