What commercials do you hate??
 

i can't stand the ones on the radio where there is excessive food noises. you know, eating with your mouth full, slurping etc... another one is one that has this dude whispering pretending to be the flu, some advertisement for some flu medication, i never sat (errr drove) through the entire commercial so i couldn't tell ya what product they are trying to advertise. these commercials that get on my nerves? yeah. i go out of my way if i have to to NOT buy their product. what's your take?

Car horns or sirens on the radio commercials. On a morning commute, either can be disconcerting. Those should be banned!

I hate kissy smacky noises. Slurp, slurp, snort, slurp. Really, like the smell of your own farts, unless it's your own noise it sounds pretty gross. But I guess that's not commercials so much as television. Still, it's worth mentioning. ;)

so why is it that you can appreciate your own farts and not someone else's? i mean really, you're sitting there in your cube chair or where ever and you let one go. then you smell it. you're like "HIGH FIVE ME! i did that? REALLY?" but you get sniped by someone elses fart and you gag. why is that?

I hate pretty much any commercial anywhere that is advertising anything.

awhile ago their used to be a commercial that had the sound of a flattening tire, about the time i was on my way to work.

i stopped listening to that channel.

I especially dislike adverts where actors pretend to be real people.
I know that's what acting is, effectively, but these are shot to suggest this is reality.

Example toothpaste ads where people are stopped in a shopping centre or busy concourse and are free to stop and talk about their teeth and take a test. Well of course they are free to do so - well made up, young and conventionally attractive; they could only be out of work actors at that time of day.

Okay there's jealousy there. I've been interviewed a couple of times and have always got a great response. I speak in full sentences, include the question in my answer, speak concisely and clearly and don't look at the camera. ""Oh great, thanks!" and "Yup, got that one - perfect" are the responses I am used to. But no-one has ever stopped me to ask me about whether I have sensitive teeth.

Still hate the adverts anyway.

Adverts should have songs in them and feature a wide range of the general public. Including fat, old, unattractive.
And if they have to have children in them, make sure they speak properly! I can understand every word of the little boy in the Patak's advert, despite his accent. What a nice change from lisps and adenoidal problems. And gross over-acting.

The ones I really hate...? There are several. There're a few recent airline ads thathave really pissed me off bigstyle.

Here we are in 20 fucking 12, and they're still promoting the image of male pilots, and female support staff. Really ticks me off.

This one, I'd quite like if it wasn;t for the gender politics. It's tongue in cheek and playing on that whole Madmen, PanAm retro chic. But it fits so well with the way these ads usually work, that it just adds to the noise. Any little girl growing up seeing these ads would think that flying a plane is a Man's Job. And the girls are there to offer comfort and beauty to tired male passengers.



This one pisses me off even more.



Because yeah....it's only the men who ploughed that furrow right? Only the male aviators aye? It was never just the men. From very early on t he history of aviation there were women too. Not many, granted but they were there. But as far as this advert is concerned, the whole deal was a male only enterprise. And now, in the modern era.....and fuck all has changed.

That's me, too.

We have 20 public sector TV programs, only 2 of which run commercials. They're paid for through fees, which everybody has to pay. I also listen exclusively to radio channels without commercials.
In the rare case when I watch a TV channel with commercials, I switch as soon as they come up, switch back when I estimate the content is on again.

Dana I often rage at the inherent sexism and gender assumption in adverts.
Sometimes it's just because of who they are pitching the ad at. For example there are very rarely men in adverts for supermarket clothes lines - because their customers are mothers not fathers - the familial idyll with no men in sight still jars me.

Sometimes I try reversing the genders in adverts to see if they still work - very often it makes them ridiculous. Many of them present men in roles that we'd never accept for women - apprearing clueless and bumbling and enjoying being patronised.
The Renault advert is an exception; the man escorts a beautiful woman home just because he loves driving his new car so much, not because he wants to put the moves on her. It's gender specific without being sexist imo.

Advertising paints with a broad brush. And (in this country at least) tends to bleach to white as well. You can easily tell dubbed adverts from the States (another of my bugbears) because there is more variation in skintone.

I think we're on an upwards curve though.
Watch some of the adverts from our childhood and see how we still developed our own opinions. Girls and boys today will do the same.

I also hate this one for entirely different reasons. I think because it makes me want to punch the guy repeatedly in the face at the end.
