So, in Texas, Governor Abbot recently declared that during this period of early voting, the number of drop boxes for ballots only (not mailboxes, secure containers for ballots only) would be limited to one per county. This represented a major reduction in ballot drop boxes for some counties, especially with dense population centers. The news this morning is that a judge has ruled that this order from the Governor “likely violates their fundamental right to vote,” and has suspended the Governor's order.

The state immediately filed an appeal of the injunction, meaning a federal appeals court will now take up the issue.
Because nothing says 'merican more than "See you in court."

Got my ballot Friday but didn't notice any sticker.

Griff 10-11-2020 06:22 AM

Got ours last night, no sticker. Some places are sending them out though.

We got our ballots 2 weeks ago filled them out the next day and dropped them in the drop box at city hall.

So the state of Texas' appeal was successful. A three judge panel granted a stay of the lower court's order to stop restricting the number of ballot boxes to one per county. Republican Governor restricts access to voting; one judge, nominated by Obama issues an injunction overturning that order; a three judge panel, all nominated by Trump, issues a stay against the injunction, allowing the ballot box restrictions to remain in place.

This is likely a view into the future of how much and how long the impact of Trump's actions will be felt.

It seems obvious that in this case the Republicans want to suppress the vote and the Democrats want to expand the vote. This is one reason I am a proud Democrat.

I'm not always pro-Democrat but I am actively anti-Trump and anti the party of Trump. My ballot is filled out and will go in the mail tomorrow.

I'm pro-good ideas and good policies.

I see more good ideas and good policies from people who have the "D" associated with their name than what I'm hearing from "the Republicans". Again, let's focus on the ideas and the effects, less on the party attribution. I only pointed it out in the recent news up-thread since it seemed... it seemed partisan, irrespective of the logical and moral "justification" for the original move: "to prevent fraud". For Fuck's Sake.

I realize now, that my post about the sticker sounded a little like I was jumping on the Jam-bashing bandwagon, but really, I was just setting up the "Chiquita" comment.

I like the purple finger better than the sticker anyway.

Really? Could you explain what these good ideas are? I can't see a one, and see the Socialist Democrats as poison. They haven't any concern with rights and liberties... Trump is concerned with absolutely nothing other, except for the economic growth thing -- implemented by liberties, I don't hesitate to point out; there are several here who just can't scrape that idea together. Other people's fat wallets, let alone your own, say this benefit, from this approach, is no fantasy.

Tangentially, I'd add that Critical Theory is socially a very bad habit.

The fella who thinks quote marks are for "emphasis" -- is "clever." The quotes around the D are legit; they are glaringly unnecessary around the Republicans. Punctuation: it can save lives.

Let's see... Banana Democratic Republic? Starchy place.

I'll stick one in myself, then, too. Sundown Monday evening, the wife and I slipped our ballots into the very sturdy welded-quarter-inch steel and bolted to the pavement official ballot box at the county government center. You couldn't budge one of these things with a bullet. The building has two outdoor ballot boxes, within a stone's throw of each other, and of course there's the basement Office of the Registrar, which during business hours you could hand your ballot envelope in over the counter. No crowds elbowing each other.

In my years here, Ventura County has gone from IBMish punch cards and card punchers to Scantron-type optical scanners and tabulators with bins for the hard copies. With the federal mandate for scanners, and the punchcard things mechanically wearing, we voters got nifty stickers saying "I Voted" from the polls.

The nifty sticker tradition continues with the universal vote-by-mail in California this year -- a dark blue elliptical stickum reading "I Voted By Mail/Voté Por Correo." I had a moment's trouble with it until I figured out that only the blue part, and not what resembled a tan ellipse around the blue part, was the sticker; the tan ellipse was the backing beneath it. Now two Voted stickers adorn my black ballcap, from this election and the last.
