June 29, 2007: Pig toys

http://cellar.org/2007/pigToy2.jpg

xoB gets another one, via Spluch. The EU has mandated that pigs have to have toys to play with and five Dutch artists have presented their unique ideas for pig playtoys.
Quote:

Musician Eva Meijer invented the "magical ball", containing of different layers each having a different taste or smell. "Pigs like destroying and they love to chew on things," she motivated her choice.

Artist Irma Horstman produced a chain with edible rings in various shapes and colours.

In addition, a pig seesaw called Piggy Wiggy was introduced. On this device, pigs can walk in their search for food.

Artist Sharon Geschiere introduced a wall containing elements that will intrigue the pigs' feeling senses.

Last but not least, a pig roulette was introduced.
When the EU regulations were first introduced, there was a lot of laughing (from people on the net, like us) and some crying (by pig farmers). The sense I get from the stories is that most farmers are already providing their pigs with toys for the benefit of it.

They should give them more athletic equipment. Then the UK might get a little more Olympic Glory

Reminds me of the candy necklaces you can eat.

I think we need to see the pig roulette.

Put the pork down. Step away from the pork. Slowly, slowly.

That's handy! A keychain clip on the bottom of the grip, so you can always have your .44 magnum handy when you're driving around town.

Or is that the special limited edition model with built-in music box? Just wind it up and it plays "Nice Shot" or ?

I have that game! It was called "Pig Out!" when I purchased it.

There's a version of Pig Out on the net but I think it cheats.

Oh i'd forgotten -the Brit and American versions differ. When the two pigs are touching (and you lose all your points) it's called "Makin' Bacon" in the UK version, but something a little cleaner here -"Pig Out" maybe?

Two different games, one you throw dice and one you through the pigs. The more I see the "big brother" rules being imposed by the EU, the more I wonder about it's future.

LOL

That's a photo of a pellet gun. I think that what you're seeing is part of the mechanism to secure the CO2 cartridge. It also may be intended to resemble a lanyard loop, a feature found on some police and military weapons, and many old guns as used by cowboys.

Eh? You throw the pigs in both versions of the pig game, you throw the dice in craps. What's your point?
