May 23, 2013: Photog secretly captures proposal, finds subjects on Facebook

So Mel Reyes proposed to Jordie Egbert in an amazing, beautiful, but isolated place -- after hiking up Rattlesnake Ridge in North Bend, Washington State.

But the couple didn't know that photographer Geoff Parker was also hiking nearby with his wife, and captured their special moment just as it occurred.

Parker didn't know who they were. But he posted his shots to Facebook, where they were repeatedly shared... until they reached the couple themselves.

Quote:

"I was hanging out at my mom's house and my sister came running over to me," she said. "A family friend of ours that lives in Washington, her friend that lives in Germany had re-posted it not knowing who I was. People were just posting it trying to find me."

She then got in touch with Parker and thanked him.

"She sent me a really sweet email thanking me so much for the images and for trying so hard to find them. She cried all day," he said.

Though some have criticized Parker for watching their special moment, Egbert said she was happy he was there.

"He said he doesn't have that kind of picture from when he proposed," she said. "To him, it was something special. He was living through us. He wanted at least someone to have a picture of that special memory. It was a good gesture. He did it for us."

"Though some have criticized Parker for watching their special moment"

Amazing. It's the most natural thing for a human to do, to watch drama unfold in front of you. Anyone being critical of him is a huge hypocrite, because they would absolutely watch too.

Absolutely. Mr Limey and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary with a weekend away. We ate our anniversary dinner in a hotel restaurant where there was one other couple. Whilst trying not to be too aware of them at their table Mr L and I did, indeed, witness a proposal of marriage and its acceptance. We could not refrain from congratulating the couple and they were both perfectly OK that we had witnessed the happy event. It was really sweet and romantic.

I assume he's being criticized for filming and posting someone else's intimate moment not stumbling upon it. I'm glad they were not upset by the distribution of their image, but I find it very creepy. Just another urban versus rural difference, I guess. As we over-populate this planet and herd everyone into the cities, there will be no room for or expectation of privacy at least how I'd define it. Go fazebook!
