Those are cool pictures.
I was on the Big Island years ago on our honeymoon, and we went to the end of the road where the lava had blocked it. A few hundred yards away, hot lava was going into the water and creating a steam cloud that rained down on us.

I thought it was cool until I saw it was coating my camera lens with water droplets, each of which contained razor sharp abrasive bits of tiny lava particles.

I had to take that lens to a camera shop to be professional cleaned because I couldn't get the the particles off without wiping and scratching the lens.

I'm glad I took such good care of that lens, because I shot no more than ten more rolls with it before it got abandoned in my closet as a victim of the digital revolution.

I wonder how they get that into those lamps.

Hi Mama.

I came across my wonderful Minolta with the F1.2 lens that I took hundreds of Europe shots with... abandoned -> digital Nikon. Very sad really. Hate to pitch it but why keep it?

It's been very interesting to watch that lava sneaking up on Pahoa.

When I was a kid we had a family friend who was fascinated with lava. He would come to our house bringing his Super8 movie projector and show us hours of Big Island lava crawling here and there. I bet I saw the full conflagration of 5 separate home in his movies. It was riveting stuff. I miss it.
