June 4, 2009: Melon Opening Kit

For opening your melon, not the watermelon, your melon...

A fine German fitted neurosurgical set dating to the early 19th century. The velvet lined leather case is decorated with embossed surrounds. It contain 17 compartments which accommodate a full set of instruments made from unplated polished steel, brass and horn. They are signed by Zitier, Heine and Sandill and it is likely that the boxed set was made specifically to accommodate these instruments. There are no empty spaces and the set is complete and original. Around the central trepanning brace there are two fixed hand held trephines, two detachable handles and trephines attachments, a scalpel, Hey saw, elevator, brush, scissor handled spreaders, a starter trephine and two raspatories. Just under the handle of the trepanning brace is a small instrument with detachable screws which connect to the handle by means of an oblong shaped loop. The small screw would have been turned into a section of cranium and then left in place, allowing it to be easily removed with the handle.

I reckon I'd prefer the Stihl Kit thanx

So, now we know Pearcie's real identity:

A country doctor is being hailed as a life-saver after using a power drill to bore into a 12-year-old boy's skull.

Nicholas Rossi suffered bleeding to the brain and began drifting in and out of consciousness after falling from his bike near a friend's home in Maryborough, Victoria.

After realising the local hospital did not have the necessary surgical equipment, Dr Rob Carson used a drill from the maintenance room to bore into the boy's skull and relieve the pressure on his brain.

He was given advice on the phone by leading Melbourne neurosurgeon David Wallace.
I'm glad to know which brand you prefer.

"Dr Carson told me all he can remember saying is, 'Get the Black and Decker'."
Well, make your mind up.

When I first saw this thread I thought it was a bit boring. But I know the drill and I'll clamp up.

Cut it out. Stop poking around where you don't belong.

I'll have to get me one of those kits for next door's cat.

Dick Cheney has put in his "buy it now" offer, makes call for enhanced trephining.

The two knives at the upper right, w/the sickle & scythe-shaped blades are down right sinister.

Things that make you go, "hm. No. That's okay. I'll just die instead, thanks."

For a recipe, refer to the movie Silence of the Lambs.
