May 10, 2007: Deer accident [warning very graphic and gruesome]
http://cellar.org/2007/deeraccident1.jpg
This is what happens when you hit a deer at 70MPH, reports xoB as he sends along this set. http://cellar.org/2007/deeraccident2.jpg http://cellar.org/2007/deeraccident3.jpg To me, shots 2 and 3 are the most remarkable. Damn head and tail separated, and missing a body. Where did the body wind up? http://cellar.org/2007/deeraccident4.jpg http://cellar.org/2007/deeraccident5.jpg http://cellar.org/2007/deeraccident6.jpg Ugh. |
Any word on the driver's survival, so we can dicuss shishcabob(sp?)?
|
Oh dear, is that the liver on the floor of the back seat?
|
I didn't know venison went well with diet coke. Ugh.
|
I don't care what the insurance company says, total that one out!
Funny thing is that they probably will total it out and then it will get auctioned off to those guys from south of the border who come up here in caravans to buy cars to take back south and resell. We see them all the time in Texas towing cars southbound. |
no airbag? that car looks like a pretty recent model and i would have thought it had an airbag. can anyone tell by the look of the steering wheel whether or not it has one?
if so, i wonder why it didn't go off, and what repercussions that had for the driver. |

Sometimes IoTD makes me worry about myself.
For no reason I can determine the pictures struck me as really funny... |
A few thoughts on this: It looks like the deer didn't even hit the bumper, so the airbag sensor didn't get set off. Although, I'm not sure an airbag would have helped much here. 2. There's a big difference between 60 MPH and 70 MPH. A little slower and it might not have gone through the windshield. 3. Deer are idiots! And they can leap anything. I've seen them just bound in from the side of the road. The one you hit won't just be standing there. They come from the side. 4. At night, I really prefer roads with wide open fields along the side. Moonless nights and rain are better, too. The deer bed down. But when driving through wooded country with a full moon, watch out!

The driver is very lucky the deer got split in two and mostly stayed outside of the car. The driver got a high speed innards shower, but innards are mostly soft. All the hard bony bits stayed outside.
The driver was able to recover from the impact and pull the SUV over to the shoulder to stop nicely. Even parked parallel to the pavement! Very lucky indeed. It could have been much much worse. |
That guy is going to need the big bottle of shampoo.

The deer crossed the road just in front of our car. Most passed behind the first car oncoming car and in front of the second, but one didn't make it. Landed on the front of the second car (going 50-60ish) and then smashed the winshield and exploded in a cloud of fur. :greenface The driver was able to pull over and was not hurt. |
I've swerved (sp?) for deer before. But I cannot imagine this, spilling guts and blood ONTO me after splitting the dear in half? That is intense shiiiiet.

what a waste of venison
BTW You do know that deer are the most deadly animal in North America? |
Ain't no fixin' Vixen.
