Unusual weather we're having, ain't it?

One could say this winter has been unusually warm...

According to this morning's NY Times, New York City is in its longest snow-free period since 1878.

I'm not complaining, though. We need a new roof and I'm very happy the weather's going to let the roofers get to it sooner rather than later.

This is going to mess everything up. All the plants are going to sprout new buds then we are going to get a long freeze.

Somehow, someway, we're gonna pay for this. We'll probably get a foot of snow in April.

I'm pretty sure blueberries around here will suck, they need a whole pile of subfreezing hours to fruit. (400-500 hours below 45f to break dormancy) I've already heard the apple farmers freaking out. Not sure of the impact on maple syrup, i.e. if the sap is running early, too early, not gonna.

Last year was a record crop for the apple orchards and they lost a shitload of it because they could find enough pickers.

it's messed up all over. Germany, Scandinavia and the Soviet countries are all far above average. Meanwhile the North Pole is 10 below normal.

If we get a good hard freeze after budding the fruit trees are in trouble.

We haven't budded here...yet.

Everything's still frozen here in Albuqueruqe. We got a foot and a half of snow between the two holidays.

For that little curse Mr. Smartybeestiepants, you're coming to NC to shovel our driveway. Because we're sure as heck not ready for that ;)

Not to worry - I pay with really good hot chocolate, use of the hot tub, and all the weiner dawg petting a human could want. (We have 3)

Pie 01-08-2007 04:23 PM

:redface: I missed the word "dawg" in your post, Dag.

Dagney 01-08-2007 05:44 PM

Um....well.....*blush* that petting is saved for only one ;)

He's a might bit jealous ;)

yesman065 01-08-2007 07:19 PM

And rightfully so I'll bet!

Dagney 01-08-2007 08:03 PM

I'll let him answer that question ;)

I was running around in a T-shirt today, here in SoCal.
