You take your standard Mars bar, you dip in it batter and then you deep fry it in hot oil. According to official wire service captions, the above delicacy is now widely available in Scottish fish-and-chip shops. |
And people make fun of Americans for our dietary choices.

Now a deep fried Snickers...yes, that would be a tasty treat. :yum: I read somewhere the Scots have the highest sugar consumption rate so this would compliment that nicely. |
A Mars bar in Scotland is more like a Milky Way here, so I guess it would be like the Snickers without the nuts.

Isn't there anything that is already deep-fried that could be modified in some way and then deep-fried again? That would be even more artery-clogging.

A bag of deepfried extra fried chips maybe? We can start selling them in small packs....almost like the originals... Or a deepfried coffee? Lots a possibilities there.... :cool: |

The other day at work one of the girls said 'try this'. It looked batter dipped and fried so I obligingly ate it, one of those moments where you eat something before you ask what's in it. Turns out it was a fried pickle slice from the fixin's bar and it was surprisingly pretty good! It was a slow night at work so we went on experimenting frying various other tid bits from the pizza toppings bins. Fried mushrooms, sausage chunks, meatballs, broccoli all were tasty but we probably should have stopped before trying fried spinach. :greenface

Fried mushrooms are one of my very favorite foods. When I was in college they would serve them occasionally at the cafeteria and I would always end up eating like 3 or 4 servings of them. They also served fried ocra and fried corn. I accidentally got the corn once by accident, I thought it was pretty nasty, but I guess some people like it.
Fried broccoli and cauliflower are also quite good, and of course cheese. But I can't imagine deep frying anything sweet like that. Yuck. I guess deep fried ice cream is pretty popular too (just do a Google seanch). My last job we had a deep fryer, and I always wanted to try an egg and see what would happen (just before it got cleaned out, in case it made a mess). It probably would have exploded and mixed in with the oil, but if it worked I wonder if it would be comparable to a hard boiled egg. Or maybe try starting with a hard boiled egg... Anyone ever tried that? |

Ever tried yam fries before? You cover a chunk of yam in batter and fry it. Mmm... it's what got me to like eating yams in the first place. |
