June 23, 2008: Disability Dissed

Football (soccer), for everyone!

Quote:

Football for All celebrates the game.
The Football for All campaign for the UEFA EURO 2008™ quarter-finals has given fans the opportunity to see that disabled players are talented sportsmen in their own right – while also celebrating the joy of football.
International teams
Before each quarter-final, international disabled sports teams played games in the stadiums in Basel and Vienna, with each Football for All match split into two seven-minute halves. The project was co-ordinated in partnership with Plusport, the umbrella organisation for disability sports in Switzerland, and the Austrian sports federation for the disabled (ÖBSV), and financed by UEFA. Disability sports organisations from the countries of the articipating teams were also involved.

couldn't agree more - i love seeing images like this; just proves that anything is possible when you set your mind to it.

As long as a few other people have also set their minds to developing really brilliant prosthetic technology. [/wetblanket]

I am just thinking, "Fuck! Don't get near that guy. One trip attempt with that prosthetic leg and you will be missing your leg too."

Gravdigr 06-23-2008 07:06 PM

You know, I respect anyone who does such things w/a disability, BUT, if I saw him miss that kick (if, in fact, he's not kicking the ball w/the other, uh, foot/leg/leaf spring) I'd still laugh my ass off. Probably. No, I would. Definitely. :headshake

Actually I think that guy is the goalkeeper cos he's wearing gloves. So the perspective is a little funny, he should be trying to catch the ball. Wonder if he got it..

Most of the players don't use that high tech stuff, just regular prosthetics.

Table footballers have discovered long ago that a "modified" leg has an advantage over factory/nature's default settings
