WTF?

I just deleted my "favorites" file.

WTF?

What a pain in the ass.

I'm going to bed now.

fuck.shit.piss.

Aliantha 02-02-2006 09:27 PM

lol...you can probably retrieve it foot. Still a pisser though.

footfootfoot 02-02-2006 09:33 PM

Hmm. I did a find file and two items showed up, one completely empty and the other one an up to date version of faves. how it got misplaced I'm not sure. Probably "the nut behind the wrench" as we used to say in the bike shop.

Now I really am going to bed.

seakdivers 02-02-2006 11:30 PM

Well it's clear what your favorite favorite is since you made it here.

BigV 02-02-2006 11:34 PM

that's ft3 putting the mac in :smack:

Sun_Sparkz 02-03-2006 12:29 AM

i'm leaving this job next week and today i cleaned out my emails and all my favourites. it was very sad. I'll be a bit lost for a while.. i can only remember here, ebay and hotmail... oh well!

Cyclefrance 02-06-2006 02:40 PM

Got my new Dell laptop (no honestly, that's not me trying a bit of placement, I actually did get a Dell -and it's, well, really OK, but then anything would look brilliant against the old Acer Travelmate vintage c. 1999) and I was keen to get my mail and web favourites transferred to the new environment. I use Outlook Express as my email interface so prospects looked good from that angle.

With two sons in IT - one working with Internet Firewalls and all things mystical 'below the floor' so to speak and the other into network support so an 'above the floor' maestro, I had everything covered. Thanks to their homely presence from time to time we have a network linking pcs and laptops in several rooms and also a 300 Gig shared external hard-drive. My task seemed, as aresult, extremely more complicated than mending a puncture in the rear wheel of my bike or changing the brake blocks to both wheels, so I left it up to one of them to do the business!

Hey, it all happened. My favourites are all there and in place. My Outlook Express has every folder I ever created and 'speaks' to the four main email addresses I use. Amazing. I even have virus software that seems to have a verey generous subscription period for some reason now...

But there had to be a catch.

And there was (still is)

I have all my email folders, but none of the emails that should be in them. They are still on the old Acer, and try as I may, I haven't found a way to transfer them over. Same goes for the Address Book.

So for now I have to duck and dive between the two PCs when I need to look at something that is from the period BD (OR AA) - I'm sure you can work that one out for yourselves.....

footfootfoot 02-06-2006 08:40 PM

as I read your post, I began thinking "hmm, I wonder if CF has a spare room to let" then I got to the too good to be true part. HA HA. It's always the way, isn't it?

Last night I was at a pal's house and he has this computer set-up with 6gigs of RAM and however many terabytes of disk space and a processor speed of 1.6 megahertz. 1.6 what I was afraid to ask. thousand?

He showed me google earth and I realized I post to the cellar from a large doorstop.

granted he edits movies on his machine, but still. five or six years makes a difference.

I can fix this for you. Interested?

Absolutely -that would be really great if you could and it would make a hell of a difference if I could get away from having to use the the old Acer. I think my sons' reticence is down to always having something else to do (as sons do) so a result there might take a few months to achieve.

I'd really appreciate a solution. I looked through both Hotmail and Outlook Express help but could find nothing that did what I wanted to do.

Many thanks V - look forward very much to hearing how to do it!

That actually looks significantly better than the setup we have at work. At least they have a shelf.

I think I've told the story about how when the network goes down, someone has to break into the "computer guy's" unairconditioned office and return the network hub to it's paperclip that lets it dangle from a hole in the cinderblock wall.

seakdivers 02-07-2006 11:10 AM

That setup was certainly unique..... but why did they take the keys off the keyboard? I'm sure they had a reason.

BigV 02-07-2006 01:24 PM

cleaning, draining and drying a Mountain Dew spill... I've taken apart countless keyboards this way. Most of the time they can be repaired.

Wolf - I'd be happy to fly out there and upgrade that system to a coathanger support mechanism. This will have several advantages over what is presently installed:

1) Superior tensile strength resulting from a thicker gauge of steel
2) Larger hole-gripping area provided by the extra length and gauge of the new material.
3) Greater load-bearing capacity.
4) Much easier to recover and reinstall in the event of gravity-induced failure.
5) Support system guaranteed to outlast the technology which it is supporting.

I'd be willling to do this major upgrade for $5k plus expenses, and I'd provide a one year warranty against labor defects.

Let me know?

Cyclefrance 02-07-2006 03:31 PM

Hate to say this Wolf, but however attractive Elspode's offer appears, I'm afraid I have to reveal that he is blatantly overselling against the requirement. The coathanger solution has all those features for sure but you'll be paying for a load more that you don't need. That esoteric shape is pure indulgence, they've used far more materials than is needed to provide a satisfactory solution, and, believe me, you'll never use that bottom bar that is integral to this structures strength.

Let's cut to the essentials. The solution you need is the AMN (angled masonry nail) - I can deliver the latest version (7.5) and for half the price of the coathanger option. I'm so confident of the suitability and durability of this solution that I'll include the installation pack in the price and a full 24 months replacement guarantee provided it is installed by one of my authorised agents.

With an offer like that, Elspode is going to be waiting some infinite length of time for your call, I'm sure you'll agree.

Undertoad 02-07-2006 03:40 PM

Ah but your AMN will probably be in metric -- it won't necessarily work with with U.S. masonry, which is still based on the Imperial system.

Cyclefrance 02-07-2006 05:25 PM

S**T - and the adaptors cost $2.5K!

zippyt 02-07-2006 09:15 PM

Ever put a stoners key board back togather with the keys rearanged , it takes them a WHILE to figuer out what has happened

I'll bring it up with the computer guy. Who is the computer guy because is late father was one of the early medical directors. He has a fine degree in Journalism. We're big on nepotism and legacy hires.

I had a critical error on the medical records database the other night. I had to call him at home to try to resolve it. After about 15 minutes of conversation I figured out and resolved the problem. Myself.
