Gin!

Is it possible to find a better drink than G&T on a hot day when you've got nothing much better to do than sit and sip?

The only problem is, if you have too many, they interfere with sleeping (in my experience), so moderation is the key ingredient. :)

wolf 01-27-2006 01:24 AM

I'd have to say yes, as nothing compares with a really cold beer on a really hot day.

Aliantha 01-27-2006 01:30 AM

OK...well, you have me there. Beer is pretty good too.

Are you following me??? lol

wolf 01-27-2006 01:35 AM

It's 0234 hrs here. I work nights so I tend to have the place to myself right about now.

Aliantha 01-27-2006 01:38 AM

So you're not used to having someone answer your posts straight away?

wolf 01-27-2006 01:40 AM

I'm quite used to it actually (I wake up in what is our early afternoon, so I do occasionally interact with people who walk on the Dayside).

Trilby 01-27-2006 06:01 AM

G&T are pretty damn sweet. Of course, I can't drink them. At least, the Universe highly, highly suggests that I should not.

What is to-die for yummy, though, is a mojito. OMG! So good, I'd drink the virgin version of them!

(Virgin Version would be a good name for a band)

:bass: :band: :shred: :keys:

I like what Elvis Costello said: on his first tour of the US he tried to cause a shortage of G&T by drinking them all.

recipe, please!

Trilby 01-27-2006 01:59 PM

mojitos have mint (MUST be fresh!) lemon juice (fresh squeezed) light rum and club soda. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

BigV 01-27-2006 02:17 PM

Minus rum for virgin? Any other virgin tips? Proportions? Techniques?

Kozmique 02-08-2006 04:23 AM

Gin was the first hard liquor I was ever able to drink that did not result in my being laid out flat on my back on the floor, declaring my hatred for everyone and everything. I found loooove with gin. But I have to admit these days a good single malt scotch with a refreshing soda back is sometimes even better than a G&T

FallenFairy 02-08-2006 01:13 PM

First choice~ Potato Vodka - must be kept in freezer and served in chilled glass.
Phenominal...

but I would never turn down a good G&T.

Brianna - can you give the proportions for the mojitos? that sounds GOOD!

Add in some simple sugar syrup and a stick of sugar cane.

And yes, they're damn good :)

Dagney 02-08-2006 01:32 PM

This is the one I make:

Mojitos.....

3 fresh mint sprigs
2 oz simple sugar syrup
3 tbsp fresh lime juice
1 1/2 oz light rum
club soda

In a tall thin glass, crush part of the mint with a fork to coat the inside. Add the sugar syrup and lime juice and stir thoroughly. Top with ice. Add rum and mix. Top off with *chilled* club soda (or seltzer). Add a lime slice and the remaining mint, and serve. Garnish with a stick of sugar cane.

Thanks Dagney!
I'll be trying your recipe on the weekend!
:thankyou:

Gin Martini. Extra dry. Double olives. The king of all gin drinks. My friend likes gin & sprite... not too bad, actually.

Vermouth compliments gin without overpowering it. My limit is three. Sometimes four ....sometimes........

Sun_Sparkz 02-08-2006 05:18 PM

i have never tried gin, it just sounds bitter.

I like Coconut rum (Malibu) with EVERYTHING - cola, pineapple juice, Orangejuice, lemonade, midori and malibu,, just yum.

Oh and cocksucking cowboys are my 2nd fav. (cream liqur and butterscotch)

And i Lurve lurve Spumante'. mmm the bubbles!!

capnhowdy 02-08-2006 06:23 PM

IMO gin tastes a lot like a christmas tree smells.

FallenFairy 02-09-2006 07:43 AM

Juniper berries, isn't that what flavors gin?

Aliantha 02-09-2006 06:12 PM

Gin isn't bitter at all, in fact, it's very sweet. Particularly if you choose a nice one. Like all spirits, you get what you pay for.

Fallen, that's right. Also almonds, lemon peel, liquorice, and Iris Root. That's what it says on my bottle anyway. ;)

capnhowdy 02-09-2006 09:24 PM

Juniper is a type of cypress, which is a choice of trees here in the *christmas* season. Very poignant. IIRC kinda reminds me of the upper grade sinsemilla fragrance. Oh... to be young again.

Oh!.... that was last year!

collects thoughts..... signs off........

Ohhhh that sounds interesting... Iris root? what brand of gin do you prefer?

Aliantha 02-10-2006 06:25 PM

I usually drink Bombay Sapphire cause it's about the best one you can get around here...maybe anywhere. Problem is, I only drink it after someone's been overseas and buys it duty free for me, cause I can't afford the price tag otherwise. :(

capnhowdy 02-10-2006 10:05 PM

Beefeater. mmmmmm......

I get a jones for Bombay Sapphire about once or twice a year. Other than that, its usually Wild Turkey 101.

Kitsune 02-11-2006 04:47 PM

Gin is the devil. ...but with all the positive posts I've seen here about it, I'll have to give it another chance.

Right after a mojito, that is. Mmmm!

Aliantha 02-11-2006 07:33 PM

Did I mention it puts me to sleep? lol
