Along with Petri, Mrs. Dallas also brought back this c. 1900 picture from Boston. It shows her paternal grandmother (standing, farthest to the left on the back row) and great-grandparents (seated adults).

lumberjim 10-26-2005 09:21 PM

hey! the guy in the back/middle looks like Freddie Mercury!

lumberjim 10-26-2005 09:22 PM

there are 13 non adults. is g-mom one of 13?! whook!

Related to this family, no doubt:

Too bad about that revolution thing.

See what happens when you don't have TV. :mg:

Well, first of all, I was confused. (Or Mrs. Dallas misspoke. More likely, I got confused.) This is really from her mother's side of the family, not father's.

As for the number of offspring, there is at least one son-in-law included. I will try to get the full count.

13 kids would explain a lot about the look on Great-Grandma's face...

Very cool picture SD. Makes you wonder about what life was like way back then and who your relatives truly were in their day (or your wife's relatives, same idea).

Well, there are women (so I'm told) who find pregnancy to be a joyous, life-affirming experience. Mrs. Dallas, however, found it to be 40 solid weeks of vomiting and unrelenting fatigue. And so it is that whenever she meets or hears about anybody who has more than 3 kids, she immediately begins doing the math to calculate exctly how much of her life the woman in question spent being pregnant.

xoxoxoBruce 10-28-2005 11:04 AM

Just washing and ironing all the clothing in that picture would be a lot of work, back in the day.

I'm currently visiting my parents for the week. A box of old photos was "discovered". Also discovered was the fact that I knew how to run their scanner. So lots of photos are being scanned. (I'd love to have started this at the beginning of the week, but what are you going to do??

This picture shows my mother's bowling team from 1962. Now, aside from the fact that I never knew my mother (far right) bowled, the team was notable in that four of the five members were pregnant, and they won the league championship. (My mother said they couldn't be beaten because they had such a large handicap.)

I remember the fashions well.

I remember the day care center at my mom's bowling alley. It was actually a pretty nice place, if you don't count the sounds of pins being knocked down every few seconds.

Not at all, sack dresses either. :(

Clodfobble 01-01-2006 04:55 PM

I thought you were fond of women in the sack, Bruce... :)

xoxoxoBruce 01-02-2006 05:03 PM

What?? Don't you know I'm a virgin? Do you think I would sully myself, rutting like some wild beast?
Why I'd love a chance to personally demonstrate my stirling self control. :right:

Um, given the return policy here, I think "demonstrate" is the same as "own". Oh, and it's spelled "sterling".

wolf 01-03-2006 12:22 AM

I am very disappointed that they don't show anyone modelling their lovely jewelry.

A portrait of the kids, shot for Mrs. Dallas's birthday (tomorrow).

limey 11-27-2006 01:38 PM

I wanted to comment on the thread drift initiated by BigV but I find I can't in the presence of the (lovely) children :o maybe later, a few posts further on ... (when they've gone to bed?).

dar512 11-27-2006 01:52 PM

Not so amazing I guess, but notice the resemblance between daughter of SD and Mrs. D's grandmother in the first picture. Musta been some strong genes in that family.

Griff 11-27-2006 04:27 PM

I was gonna comment on that. Its pretty cool isn't it. Nice looking kids SD!

skysidhe 11-28-2006 10:08 AM

What great looking kids SteveDallas! and Happy Birthday to Ms.SteveDallas.

SteveDallas 11-28-2006 10:33 AM

Thanks! I admit I'm not convinced on the family resemblance . . . maybe.
