Alas, poor Cellar, I knew it well...
1 Attachment(s)
Well, the time that I dreaded finally came this morning. Right after my last post this morning, I hit back and got the "red screen of death." (See pic below). The Comm Nazi's fianally caught on to me and blocked the Cellar at work. http://www.cellar.org/images/smilies/pissed.gif I now no longer can browse during normal working hours. http://www.cellar.org/images/smilies/pissed.gif So I fear my postings will probly come to a grinding halt from here on out. http://www.cellar.org/images/smilies/pissed.gif I'll try to keep up at home but I don't always get the opps to do that. You know how it is, if you miss one day, you are behind on some threads by leaps and bounds. Just as well, I was begining to hit the site at work way too much. Anyway, I hate it when people sort of disapear without explanation, so there it is. It's been fun, it's been real, it's been entertaining to say the least. Thanks all.

Well, that sucks. Of course they have the right to do so, but it really does sound kind of petty.
Keep in touch. I can't always keep track of every thread, so just pick one every now and then. |
Although one wonders exactly what it was that pushed cellar.org over the edge. (Maybe it was the woman with the silicone watermelons.)

When I was trying to use the computer at library after the storm. The cellar was blocked. But I worked around it. Found someone who had power and a computer.

C'mon folks, it's Mississippi. They probably consider Vanity Fair light porn. |

It was something radar said, probably. Most likely in that tribute thread about Ronald Reagan.

Try signing into http://www.anonymizer.com and get into the celler by typing the url instead of using the bookmark. I think this will work, because you are then on their server and your own IP is not being used. It might fool the Nazis. Of course, they might have blocked http://www.anonymizer.com/ from their list too :eyebrow:
|
Cool, Tonchi! Hope it works for Hobbs. It might solve Lookout's problem, too. Hope he sees this thread.
|
The only problem is you have to sign in and use the free demo if you don't want to get the subscription. That is a pain, but I think it might work because the same IP is never used twice, it is kinda like a spin=the=bottle IP capture that their site does. I used it to get into discussion board of rival websites which had banned me and my IP, when I wanted to flame them :rattat:

Oooh, I am screwed if this ever happens at my work, no internet at home. Ugh, I'd have to get a whole new computer, mine is WAY old, like, the HD is 2G. Totally ancient. Not enough oomph to run computer games for my 3 year old!!!

But I reckon the upside is that the cellar wouldn't be blocked on the computers in the prison library, so, you'll have that goin' for you, eh? |
cotse.net is worthwhile. You have to pay, but it's a good service. Tor (http://tor.eff.org) is good too and it's free, but you have to be able to install software on the computer, which may or may not be feasible. Cotse will run entirely through a web browser on port 443.

anonymiser is run by the Federal Government as I recall. They say they don't retain user or use records but I do not believe them.
Just find a site that uses frames to pull in other sites and the cellar URL never shows up in your transmission logs or browser history. The content is transmitted as content from the host site and if you can navigate to it then it is an OK site w/r to your nannyware. I used to know a few but forgot them all - if I remember or see another one, I'll post it but you should be able to find one though you can't really google for that. And don't forget that you are not responsible for knowing that the Cellar is a blocked site - that would be a software failure. |

The second link...doesn't. :(

I never worked in any place where you could get onto the internet because I worked mainly in hospitals or doctor's offices.
They are so tightly locked down, for many reasons, that one cannot ever see the light of an internet...just University E-mail as such. |

In another discussion was an assumption that their automobile needs hundreds of horsepower. 100 Horse is still too small? Tim Allen's Home Improvement was making a joke of these people: "More power". Amazing that without massive power, drivers start learning driving techniques. Same concept advocates teenagers have a horsepower restriction on their driver's license. A computer with a 2G hard drive has more than plenty of computing power to access The Cellar. Also why pilots first train on low power aircraft. This is why better pilots are also glider pilots. Its called first learning your limitations; developing skills accordingly. First learning the skills of flying rather than use "more power" to mask bad piloting skills. A computer 'power user' would know these 'ancient' machines are still sufficient - and learn from the experience. Over there is another 66 Mhz 486 from HP. It has one speed advantage over this 486 and a 500 Mhz Gateway running Windows 98SE - a significantly faster video subsystem. How can this be? They both have the same or less Mhz? Appreciate why so many clone machines are, in reality, less powerful. Ask yourself if Tim Allen's joke about "more power" was pointed directly at yourself. Even 500 Mhz was more than sufficient power for most internet and other functions. Experienced computer users would know this ... and the reasons why. Good reason why I went from DOS directly to NT - bypassed Windows 3.1 and Windows 9x. Learned from using what others 'assumed' were obsolete machines. Machines declared obsolete too often by hype rather than by fact. |

$20 says the site IA folks have those blocked too
I thought of one way to get around the restriction. Put an IA discussion board on here ;). At least then your friendly base IA division/branch/detachment will be able to surf here.
Either that, or make friends with the people who are allowed uncensored commercial Internet connections :). Then again, you are on an Air Force base, which means that the IT staff hasn't outsourced to EDS yet. Mitch |
